By J.L. Berg

Blurb:

Head down. Don’t look up. Never make eye contact.

Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.

Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.
But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.

And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.

Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

Courtney's Review

Let me start off by saying that this book has an incredible plot. This well written book is about a teenage girl named, Willow. Willow suffers with a traumatizing past until she was sent to live with her aunt Addy. Now Willow’s journey is to recover from her broken past and open up to the people who truly care about her.

THE TATTERED GLOVES is a real page turner, keeping me on my feet as I was reading. Honestly one of the most amazing books that I’ve read. Little bit of tears follow by laughter and topped with a little bit of romance. Could not put it down until I finished.

The author did a perfect job of developing the story and characters that are also memorable and sarcastic. This is a perfect teens book that I would recommend to any young reader.

Book Review: Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg

Better off Friends
by Elizabeth Eulberg

Blurb:
For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

Courtney's Review:
In this book "Better Off Friends" by Elizabeth Eulberg, Levi Rodgers transfers schools and ends up meeting Macallan Dietz and had a lot in common like their favorite TV show Buggy and Floyd. they started hanging out on Wednesdays and sooner or later they became best friends, but are they more than friends? Or are they better off friends?

In the beginning of the story I really didn’t understand the style of what the author used but eventually came to understand it better and it was amazing! Macallan is my favorite character she is so sarcastic and is such a good friend to Levi. She is also very protective of her uncle who was born with a speech deformity and so if anyone makes fun of him well… let's just say it wouldn't be good.

Overall this book is very well written (after I realized how the author has writing it) and was so easy for me to picture it in my head. Also it has the sarcasticness I liked. There’s also a little friend drama which there is anytime guys and girls become best friends. So I would indeed recommend this book to any young readers even if they don’t understand it in the beginning; just stick with it for a while - it gets so much better, trust me.

Let's Get Lost
by Adi Alsaid

Blurb:
Five strangers. Countless adventures. One epic way to get lost.

Four teens across the country have only one thing in common: a girl named LEILA. She crashes into their lives in her absurdly red car at the moment they need someone the most.

There's HUDSON, a small-town mechanic who is willing to throw away his dreams for true love. And BREE, a runaway who seizes every Tuesday—and a few stolen goods along the way. ELLIOT believes in happy endings…until his own life goes off-script. And SONIA worries that when she lost her boyfriend, she also lost the ability to love.

Hudson, Bree, Elliot and Sonia find a friend in Leila. And when Leila leaves them, their lives are forever changed. But it is during Leila's own 4,268-mile journey that she discovers the most important truth— sometimes, what you need most is right where you started. And maybe the only way to find what you're looking for is to get lost along the way.

Courtney's Review:
Let me start by saying that this story is well written with lots of significant details that make it impossible to put down. In this book four strangers end up meeting this one girl named Leila and each of them go on a separate adventure with her, some are great and some are bad. At the end of the day Lelia ends up helping each person she meets. Lelia seems to be special in that she helps each person figure something out that they didn’t know before they went on their adventure with her.

This author made it really easy to understand what was going on in the story and did not use over complicated words. I like that this author made it perfectly easy to picture everything that was going on as if it were a movie. I thought it was pretty cool that the author mentioned some of my favorite movies like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Pretty in Pink.  I really recommend this book for young readers because it has its own special thing about it that is irresistible.

There is something in this book that I didn’t quite see why it ended up the way it did. Maybe it is just the way the author wrote it that I didn’t understand. Regardless of this event it is a great book and that it should be read.
