 “Eli?” she asked, sounding confused. “Why are we talking about Eli?” “He’s been watching me.” “Um, I think he’s just drinking a beer,”Megan said. “Maybe checking out your boobs a little, but that’s nothing new.” Hmm… It couldn’t possibly be that simple, but it did give me an idea. Maybe it was time to create a diversion. I shifted my shoulders, expanding my chest. Disappointingly, his eyes stayed on mine. “Someday I’m gonna own this bar, and firing his ass is the first thing I’ll do.” Megan giggled. “That sounded sort of super-villain-ish. Do you have a lair? I wish I had a lair…” I blinked, caught off guard. I hadn’t realized that I’d said the words out loud. Eli smirked at me, gloating because he’d just won our little pissing contest. Dammit! “I can’t believe I wrote to him in prison,” I told her, turning my back on the bikers. “Never should’ve been nice to him. He probably thinks that, deep down inside, we’re friends or something. We’re never going to be friends.” “Didn’t he give you a ride home after work last night?” she asked, her voice light. “Gus made him,” I snapped. “And did Gus make him hug you the other day?” “He caught me and gave me a noogie. And it hurt, too. It’s not a hug if it leaves bruises.” “He left bruises?”Megan asked, startled. Shit. I might be able to justify a rumor about him not being able to get it up, but telling her that he’d hurt me for real…yeah, that probably crossed a line. “No,” I admitted. “That was an exaggeration. But he’s still pure evil, so don’t fall for his shit. Or sleep with him. Every time a waitress sleeps with him, she ends up quitting without notice. Then I have to cover their shifts.” Megan nodded, looking a little uncomfortable. “Okay, then… Um, I think I’ll go check the bathrooms. Make sure there’s no ugly surprises before things start getting busy.” “Great idea,” I told her, and she scuttled off. Then I reached for a washcloth because I had lemon juice to clean up. Then I’d have to go back over there and check on them. See if they wanted more… Eli would, I could already tell. Not because he was big on drinking, though. He just wouldn’t be able to resist an opportunity to order me around.

Viviana's Review: 
We were introduced to Gage and Tinker in the previous book of the series. Which caused readers to salivate for this release! The thing is, REAPER'S FIRE isn't your traditional "Reaper" book. There is a lot LESS "Reapers" and less of the type of behaviors readers may be used to from the Reapers. This book read more of a traditional contemporary novel that has a guy that rides a bike. The story jumps around a bit which could be a bit frustrating. Especially if you were expecting a "Reaper" book. So taking out the expectation, its a good read.

I think the book would have been better if the relationship with Gage/Cooper and Talia would have ended and we saw/read more of Gage/Cooper and Tinker. Basically, there was a lot less romance in this book than in the previous ones.

I'm sort of wondering where the series is going and what comes next.

Viviana's Review: 

I’ve heard a lot about Painter!  I got to meet him in the previous installment “Reaper’s Stand” however he’s been a part of the series from the beginning (I still need to catch up with the previous books).  Reaper’s Fall picks up right around where the previous book ended.

This is really the story of how Painter and Melanie came to be.  There is that first struggle of “we shouldn’t” and several reasons are listed and we know eventually it’s going to happen.  And when it does it’s hot, beautiful, and dare I say “magical” in the sense that Painter truly comes alive with Mel and Mel grows in self-confidence with him.  There’s this softer side to Painter we haven’t seen or knew he was capable of, and it was so awesome to see.

However, again, events occur that put a damper on what looks like is going to be a great relationship.  People are “human” and react differently… could Mel have handled things differently in telling Painter the news and how she took what he initially said?  Sure.  Could Painter not have reacted selfishly and even a bit childish upon hearing the news?  Of course…  Stuff happened and now both have to live with consequences.  The blurb states it at the very beginning… He never meant to hurt her.  I believe Painter tried to do everything within his power to prove he had changed and would be there for Mel and their daughter.  I might even go so far as to say at times he went above to even show he still had feelings and loved Mel.  She was still holding on to her anger and fear.  I sort of don’t want to say grudge because after everything she went through, both with her own family and then with Painter, I don’t blame her for wanting to protect her heart.

I loved how they got their HEA and both worked past their hangups with each other.  I loved seeing such a different side of Painter than has normally been portrayed.

Overall a great read that keeps you wondering what the hell could happen to separate these two and then wondering how they are going to fix things and get back together.

Rating: 4 Stars - Loved It

Viviana's Review: 

A spinoff series from the Reapers series, reader will enjoy Silver Valley Series just as much!  A bunch of badass hot guys who ride bikes!

Readers met the Pack in “Reaper’s Stand” but they won’t be lost if this is the first time you pick up a Joanna Wylde book.  Puck is a loyal man who is not one to be messed with.  Recently released from prison he finds himself in a situation that can send him right back.

For Becca, he may not be her knight in shining armor, but he did rescue her from a horrible situation when she was 16 years old.  Five years have passed and she can’t forget him nor the night they spent together.

Puck has spent the last five years ensuring Becca is and stays safe and in his mind that has meant away from him as well.  As with any good story, events unfold that give them no choice but to come together.

I really enjoyed this story and how Puck’s and Becca’s relationship develops!  Part of the drama/problem between them was Becca’s willingness to talk to Puck about her issues/problems with her “family” and considering her history and the fact that Puck has always had her best interest in mind is a bit messed up.  Additionally a major “issue” could have been avoided altogether.

Narrator Review:

Both did a great job with the narration and the character's tone, voices and personalities.


Overall, a great start to a new series and I can’t wait until the next book!

Nothing.


I passed through the living room and started down the hallway toward the kitchen.


“Babe, you in here?”


“In the back,” she replied, her voice faint. Entering the kitchen, I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw her face. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she seemed out of it—almost dazed.

“What the fuck’s going on?” I asked. She jumped, looking toward me with something like fear in her expression. Jesus, had someone hurt her? A burst of adrenaline rushed through me—nobody touched my woman. I’d fucking kill them. She didn’t say anything, though. “Marie?”

She shook herself, almost as if she needed to wake up.

“Sorry, I was sort of lost in my thoughts.”


“What’s going on?”


She stared at me for several seconds, her mouth tight.

“We need to talk.”


Great—words every man loves to hear. So much for my “welcome home” blow job.

“About what?” I asked warily.

“Sit down,” she murmured, glancing away from me. “You want a beer?”

Up to that point, a beer had been damned high on my list of priorities. Now? Not so much. I pulled out a chair at the big wooden block that served as our kitchen table and sat down with a thump, leaning back. Then I crossed my arms over my chest.

“So let’s talk,” I told her, forcing myself to stay patient. Marie swallowed, then reached for the cup of tea sitting on the block in front of her, taking a nervous sip.

“Okay, so here goes,” she said quietly, refusing to look at me. “We’ve got some big changes ahead of us. You need to remember that it just happened, babe. It’s not like I did it on purpose. Please remember that.”

Kelly, from Books-n-Kisses and I would like to welcome Author Joanna Wylde to our Audio Book Lovin series! 

Thanks so much for inviting me to participate in the Audio Book Lovin’ June event! I was trying to think about something interesting to share here, and came up blank. (What can I say – my life isn’t very interesting, LOL) Then I remembered that my readers are much smarter than me (true story) so I asked some of them to share their questions about the audio books. I figured if they wanted to hear the answers, your readers might, too. Here’s what they asked:

Susan: I LOVE audio books!!! I've always wondered, as the writer, how much say do you get in who reads/performs it?

Joanna: It really depends on who produces the books. For Reaper’s Property, I had no say at all. With the next three books, I was given a chance to review the covers to make sure they weren’t offensive to MC readers, but never had a vote on the narrators. My latest book, Silver Bastard, was done directly through Penguin. This was an amazing experience, because  the producer, Janet Stark, contacted me directly to ask about the characters and get a feel for who they were. Then she sent me a series of links to narrators she thought might be good. She was incredibly responsive to my opinions and I loved it. I selected the Silver Bastard narrators with her guidance.  

Nicole: Did you ever get uncomfortable when writing a sexual scene?

Joanna: Not unless I think about people reading it. Then I get really embarrassed and inhibited… I play a little mental game with myself, where I pretend that nobody is ever going to read my work. That makes it easier to just write what comes out, regardless of how twisted it may be. Thinking about people listening is the kiss of death for me when it comes to writing about sex!

Lisa: Have you ever been in the car, listening to an audio book, and get so caught up you drive by where you're going?

Joanna: Yes. My husband and I both like the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, and they have great narration. I missed my turn off to Auburn once on a road trip across Washington state. (Sooo worth it)

Melissa: Do you have any specifications/tips about the story for the narrators to make their reading flow better?

Joanna: Janet asked me about the pronunciation of several words and locations for Silver Bastard, but beyond that I’m definitely out of my depth with the audio. In many ways, the audio book of a novel is a completely different art form, I think. It’s a performance, and I don’t even like to speak in public. I can’t imagine I’d have anything to offer the narrators ;)

Jennifer: Did hearing the emotion and passion in the story change how you felt about certain characters?

Joanna: I always feel guilty admitting this, but I can’t listen to my own books on audio. It’s just too strange for me… I adore other people’s audio books but for some reason hearing my words out loud makes me uncomfortable. I think maybe it’s facing the reality that what started out at private thoughts and musings are so incredibly public. With a written book, you can sort of pretend that nobody is really seeing how weird your brain is, but when you hear it out loud, you can’t pretend. I much prefer listening to the narrators on other peoples’ books, LOL.

Ignoring him, I settled back on my stool and surveyed the room. We sat in Becca’s section, and what I saw wasn’t making me happy. I knew she was a good waitress, but she’d just started here and it showed. Not only had she fucked up several orders, she didn’t quite seem to get the rhythm of the bar. That wasn’t my problem, though.

My problem was that despite these fuckups, nobody seemed to mind. I had a nasty suspicion this was due to her perky tits, friendly smile, and tight little ass that seriously just needed a bite taken right out of it.

She really, really needed to get a new job—every man in the place wanted her. Including me. Especially me. I hated them. All of them. I shifted uncomfortably, because just like every time I shared a room with her, my pants had gotten tight.

Torture. Becca was just so fucking fine on every level, and not just her looks. There was something about the way she carried herself . . . I couldn’t put my finger on it. Like she was dancing through life to some song nobody else could hear. Never met another woman like her—she wasn’t just sexy, she was a survivor and I admired that.
