We're celebrating our Eleventh Anniversary this June aka Audiobook Month!
We're throwing it back to 2015 in today's episode of the Audiobook Lovin' Series 2025 with the fabulous Author Darynda Jones!
Darynda has long been one of our favorite authors and favorite people, and revisiting this episode 11 years after it originally aired is a total wow moment. It's incredible to see how far we've come since then!
If you haven't read her books yet, I highly recommend diving into the Charley Davidson Series, you’re in for a treat!
With a total of 13 books full length books and 8 novellas and all narrated by the fabulous Lorelei King this series has it all! You have the heroine that is strong, independent, sassy and sarcastic and the hero who happens to be the son of satan...... what could go wrong? Oh forgot to mention that she's a private investigator.... that sees ghosts..... and she's the grim reaper! Yeah, I think that's it! LOL
Reyes is the sexy hero who keeps up with Charley's sass and ahem everything in between! I love their banter and the chemistry is off the charts!
BONUS, all of the side/secondary characters are fantastic!
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Darynda Jones has won numerous awards for her work including a prestigious RITA®, a Golden Heart®, and a Daphne du Maurier, and her books have been translated into over 17 languages. OH before we move on, don't forget to follow me on the various social media platforms as well as the podcast to receive notifications of new episodes!!! You can also find us on Pocket Casts, Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Podcast, Amazon Music Podcast, Audible Podcast, iHeart Radio and Pandora!
Love the series (and the podcast) and want to help support it?
Okay now that that song is stuck in your head.... I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite paranormal romances with you! PNR is my favorite genre! Why? I think its the mystical side of the world.
Below I've listed those that I love and highly recommend! I have included a little info and links for you to check them out!
Ready?
A series that I ALWAYS recommend if you're new to PNR is to start with
Dannika Dark's "The Seven Series"!
Not only is it narrated by the extremely talented Nicole Poole (who makes you think this is a multi-cast production when its only her) but it reads like a contemporary romance that happens to have shifts. Dannika's gift for world building and character development will have you loving this series!
You'll end up falling in love with it and you'll want to start Dannika's other series, The Mageri Series and then The Crossbreed Series!
If you want to read all of Dannika's series, you should start with The Mageri Series!
Now this series is one I love and hold dear to my heart!
It also has a favorite character of mine... SIMON! Damn that man! I mean Mage!
What's not to love! He's British... cheeky, sarcastic and great in the sack (according to himself). So imagine my surprise and reaction when when I get this little note from Simon, explaining why Nicole was delayed in submitting her post for the 2015 Audiobook Lovin Series!
So the Psy-Changeling Trinity is Season Two of the Psy/Changeling series! If you haven't read the original series (Psy/Changeling) you can begin with Silver Silence (bk 1 in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series) and NOT be lost! Nalini weaves a story that is both intriguing and heart wrenching filled with extraordinary characters!
Add narrator Angela Dawe's performance and muah chef's kiss!
Love Angela's performance in every single of these books! She was a guest on the Audiobook Lovin Series in 2016 and in 2017! Listen to her Top Five Favorite Reasons to be an Audiobook Narrator below and click here to listen to our chat!
Have more questions about this series and/or the author? Click here to learn more!
I love Sherrilyn Kenyon! She's a doll and her writing is surperb!
The Chronicles of Nick is her YA series that is part of her series Dark-Hunters, immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity! In fact in the Dark-Hunters series Nick is an adult! So we get to "see" Nick as a teen and at the tender age of fourteen! This also includes many of your favorite characters from the Dark-Hunter Series! While YA usually isn't my jam, this is! Its an auto buy for me!
The narrator is Holter Graham and is perfection! Truly love this series and I know you will too!
Now... I can go on and on and on but I'm going to leave you another great PNR series
The Charley Davidson Series
by Darynda Jones!
With a total of 13 books (and more coming I'm sure) and all narrated by the fabulous Lorelei King this series has it all!
We are thrilled to have Narrator Lorelei King with us today!
She is awesome, right? We LOVE her and are extremely honored that she has been a guest of ours since we first launched in 2015! Below are three audio clips for you to check out!!
The Curse of Tenth Grave (Charley Davidson Series, #10) by Darynda Jones Narrated by: Lorelei King Blurb: If one door closes and another one opens, your house is probably haunted. —Bumper Sticker
As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.
There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?
Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murdering the daughter of a degenerate gambler, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…
Those are just some of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl on the run for her life, a man who's been framed for murdering a woman who is still very much alive, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we're saved. If not, well...

Viviana's Review: Charley's back!! Okay, you all KNOW I LOVE Darynda and this series, however, the last book left me missing CHARLEY even though she was there.... she wasn't. This book brings back all the things we LOVE about not only CHARLEY, but the series and all the characters! We got a bit of mystery and detective work going on as Charley is a PI and all, plus her life in general being the "grim reaper" and now so much more! I had missed the weaving of those elements!
Filled with Charley's antics and charm, the story has a great pace! We learn more about her current circumstances as she is learning them as well! There are a few surprises that give the story enough twists and that "dun dun dun" factor that will keep you on your toes and not wanting to put it down!
Still LOVING Reyes! We see a more vulnerable side to him in ""The Curse of Tenth Grave" yet we know and he demonstrates just how strong he truly is.
Narrator's Review: It's freaking Lorelei King!! She rocks it! Giving each character LIFE and adding a layer to an already great story and series. I really can't image anyone else narrating this series.
Overall a great continuation of the series and leaves you craving for the next installment!!! Cannot Wait!!

As a born storyteller, Darynda grew up spinning tales of dashing damsels and heroes in distress for any unfortunate soul who happened by, annoying man and beast alike, and she is ever so grateful for the opportunity to carry on that tradition. The Dirt on Ninth Grave (Charley Davidson Series, #9) by Darynda Jones Narrated by Lorelei King Blurb:
In a small village in New York Charley Davidson is living as Jane Doe, a girl with no memory of who she is or where she came from. So when she is working at a diner and slowly begins to realize she can see dead people, she's more than a little taken aback. Stranger still are the people entering her life. They seem to know things about her. Things they hide with lies and half-truths. Soon, she senses something far darker. A force that wants to cause her harm, she is sure of it. Her saving grace comes in the form of a new friend she feels she can confide in and the fry cook, a devastatingly handsome man whose smile is breathtaking and touch is scalding. He stays close, and she almost feels safe with him around.
But no one can outrun their past, and the more lies that swirl around her-even from her new and trusted friends-the more disoriented she becomes, until she is confronted by a man who claims to have been sent to kill her. Sent by the darkest force in the universe. A force that absolutely will not stop until she is dead. Thankfully, she has a Rottweiler. But that doesn't help in her quest to find her identity and recover what she's lost. That will take all her courage and a touch of the power she feels flowing like electricity through her veins. She almost feels sorry for him. The devil in blue jeans. The disarming fry cook who lies with every breath he takes. She will get to the bottom of what he knows if it kills her. Or him. Either way.

Viviana's Review:
You know that feeling of anticipation and of having to wait to not only find out what happens next to your favorite characters... but to also see how the author is going to move the pieces to make things work out. You're watching for excerpts, teasers, and as a reviewer, your inbox for the ARC. Then the day arrives where you get the ARC and in my case the ARC in audio YIPPIE. I downloaded immediately and began listening to it at once.
Lorelei, the narrator, continues to ROCK! She captures the essences that is Charlie, Reyes, Cookie and the rest of the characters. She provides each of them with not only a unique voice and tone, but the personality also come through the speakers.
This is the 9th book in the series and one that at the point can not be read as a standalone. I cannot get into a lot of details or info without providing spoiler, but there is just so much going on in the story arc that its necessary to read in order.
"The Dirt on Ninth Grave" was a little slow to start and I will admit Charles "condition" was a cause of frustration for me. As a reader of the series and someone that loves it and Charlie like a friend and boy did I want to go through the book and shake her to make the condition go away. Due to the "the condition' it felt repatative at times some of the things Charley would say. This information was the majority of the book.
The good news is that once the action starts and we get our old Charley back, everything is better and BAM, add an OMG revelation and end of book.... NOOOOOOOOOO
As with any series, you need books that help move the story forward and this was one of them. While I didn't absolutely LOVE every single moment, this is Darynda FREAKING Jones! And there was humor and moment that tug at your heart throughout the book.
Again, I'm left with the anticipation of wanting to see what the heck happens next and how Darynda is going to make everything work out!
Narrator Review: I think I've said it before...Lorelei King is AWESOME! She rocks!! :) She adds another layer of depth to already phenomenal characters!
Overall, while not my favorite, still a story readers will enjoy because it's CHARLEY!!!! and REYES!!!!!!!!!! and COOKIE!!!!! and DARYNDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: 3.5 Stars - I REALLY Liked It!
