According to APA (Audio Publishers Association) U.S. Audiobook Sales Hit $2 Billion in 2024! We're not surprised, right? The article (click here to read it in full) says " APA has released highlights from its 2024 consumer survey, carried out by Edison Research, which showed that 52% of U.S. adults, or nearly 149 million Americans, have listened to an audiobook. The survey also found that 38% of American adults listened to an audiobook in the last year, up from 35% reported in 2023." While fiction remained the top category among listeners (3rd year in a row) other categories have also grown including romance with 14% growth. Again not at all surprised that this is the trend and honestly I for see this continuing for quite a while. Life is busy filled with work and responsibilities and while I'm all for self care and taking the time to enjoy life's pleasures, e.g. reading, sometime we just can't stop or prefer to multi-task! And that is okay!
The good news about this growth in audiobooks and within the romance genre is that it means more audio goodies for us all! I am thrilled to be able to say this (okay, write it, but you know what I mean) that in the 10 years that we have hosted the Audiobook Lovin' Series, we have also seen the growth in WHERE (e.g. purchase and/or borrow) we can get the audiobooks from. Ten plus years ago, we were limited to a few vendors and libraries having to rent out titles one at a time due to the physical copies of CDs!
When the Audiobook Lovin' Series launched in 2015, libraries had Overdrive and Hoopl Digital. Fast forward and libraries continue to be a fabulous source of books in all formats including audio! the Overdrive app is now Libby where you can borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazine and much more from your local library! Libraries have also begun to offer membership even if you don't live in the saame city or state!!

There have also been new vendors/sellers come (and some go) that provide an alternative to the big "zon" as they say. Below I've listed some of the more popular one. I do want to highlight Libro.fm as a vendor that continues to offer both the listeners and the authors with better options! Libro.fm is celebrating their 10th year as wel! While not every title that say a certaain big box store may have, they have a fantastic catalog AND include titles that are not available else where! Their prices are also better than some of the others. And for this month, they are offering a special when you switch to their subscription you get TWO free books! Another reason I love Libro.fm is they work with local book stores! This is a great way to not only support your favorite authors but also local small businesses!
At the end of the day, where you get your audiobooks doesn't matter so long as its not illegally! When you can support an author and buy directly from, if you can, fantastic. If you purchase solely from Audible... its okay. Truly! Keep listening and don't forget to review!!
