Audiobook Review: Gimme Some Sugar By Molly Harper

Gimme Some Sugar
(Southern Eclectic #3)
By Molly Harper
Narrated byAmanda Ronconi

Blurb:
Lucy Brewer would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Bowman right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.

Even as her family and friends invade Lucy’s life and insist that the new widow is too fragile to do much beyond weeping, Lucy is ashamed to admit that life without Wayne is easier, less complicated. After all, no one knew what a relentless, soul-grinding trudge marriage to Wayne had been. Only Duffy can tell she’s hiding something.

In need of a fresh start, Lucy asks Duffy to put his cabinet-building skills to use, transforming the town's meat shop into a bake shop. As the bakery takes shape, Lucy and Duffy discover the spark that pulled them together so many years ago. Could this finally be the second chance he’s always hoped for?

Once again Molly Harper “writes characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews) in this charming and entertaining love story.

Viviana's Review:
OMG This series needs to be made into a movie and/or TV show!! Seriously!! Between the great mixture of humor and romance, you have a fantastic supporting cast of characters that literally make you want to move to Lake Sackett, GA and become friends with the entire McCready clan!!

I stayed up til 2AM to finish listening to this story because I wanted to know what came next! However, you end up also falling for the characters and you don't want it to end and you can't put it down!

I've been hoping that Duffy would get his own book! I was so happy to see glimpses of the potential story to come while listening to "A Few Pecans Short of a Pie (Southern Eclectic #2.5)" and when the blurb for "Gimme Some Sugar" was released... woohooo!!

GIMME SOME SUGAR is full of the great characters we've have come to love in Molly Harper's stories! Add a sprinkling of humor, a dash of sass and a great helping of wonderful storytelling and you have this delicious creation that is the Southern Electric Series.

Oh... and some of the sayings!!! LOVE them!!! Need to start writing them down!!

I love Amanda Ronconi and her performance is great!!! I will say that GIMME SOME SUGAR would have been phenomenal if it was performed as a duet with a male narrator! Especially since Duffy has such a large part in this story!

Overall, this series continues to rock and leaves you wanting more!! What would be even better? If this series was made into movies and/or tv series! Hey PassionFlix, I'm talking to you!!!

But lately the rift has been widening and destabilizing - threatening to send the town’s magical population into chaos.

Energy witch Danica Teel has been sent by the League to figure out what’s going on, with the help of bear-shifter Mayor Zed. While working on the case, Zed falls head over paws for Dani, but she’s reluctant to engage in anything beyond a roll in his cave. Viviana's Review:

OMG! LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! Story is filled with great characters, dialog and plot! And Zed... everything I hoped for and then some! This was a treasure to listen to!! Molly continues to write stories that leave you wanting more! LOVED AND OTHER WILD THINGS was also filled with laughs!! Loved that we also got to reconnect with Jillian, Bael, and many of the Mystic Bayou residents.

Narrator Review:
Amanda Ronconi & Jonathan Davis did a fabulous job with their performance. I really wished this was performed in duet vs. dual as the book lends itself perfectly for it. Each provide the characters their own unique tones and voices bring them to life.

Overall, this series continues to bring wonder to the listeners and I cannot wait for the next installment! A complete joy to listen to!!

Haven't read the first book in the series? There's still time to catch up!

How to Date Your Dragon
By Molly Harper
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi & Jonathan Davis

Blurb:

The first book in Molly Harper's uproariously funny, sinfully sexy new Mystic Bayou series!

Anthropologist Jillian Ramsay's career has taken a turn south.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations. Mermaids and gator shifters swim in the bayou. Spirit bottles light the front porches after twilight. Dragons light the fires under crayfish pots.

Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be....

About The Author

When Molly Harper was eight years old, she set up a “writing office” in her parents’ living room, complete with an old manual typewriter and a toy phone. And she (very slowly) pecked out the story of her third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city. She had a dark sense of humor even then.

When Molly was considerably older, she headed for Western Kentucky University, where she majored in print journalism. After graduation, she landed a job with The Paducah Sun and married her high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. After six years at the newspaper, Molly took a more family-friendly secretarial position at a local church office.

Her husband worked nights and Molly was alone with their small child in the “The Apartment of Lost Souls.” A big fan of vampire movies and TV shows, she decided to write a vampire romance novel. Molly created Jane Jameson, a bit of an accidental loser. Jane is single, almost 30, and a librarian working in Half-Moon Hollow, Ky. She has become a permanent fixture on her Mama’s prayer list. And despite the fact that she’s pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. Jane drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer and shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire. The three-book Jane Jameson series–which includes Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs,Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men and Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever—was released in 2009.  A fourth and final installment, Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors, was released in 2012.

Molly continues stories in the Jane Jameson universe through her Half-Moon Hollow series,Driving Mr. Dead, The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires, Undead Sublet, and A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses.  Undead Sublet is a short story in The Undead in My Bed anthology.  A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses will be released in June 2013.  A special free audio holiday novella, I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas, was released in December 2013.

Molly will update her popular Naked Werewolf romance series in 2013. How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf, was released in February 2011, quickly followed by The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf. A third installment, How to Run With a Naked Werewolf, will be released in December 2013.  Her first-ever “haunted house story,” Better Homes and Hauntings, will be released in June 2014.

Molly will launch her first-ever contemporary romance series with My Bluegrass Baby in December 2012.  Rhythm and Bluegrass was released in October 2013.

Molly’s books are published by Pocket Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. They are available in print, as e-books and audio books at major book stores and on Amazon. Molly is a native of Kentucky. She lives in Paducah with her husband and children.

Audiobook Review: Peachy Flippin' Keen by Molly Harper

Peachy Flippin' Keen
(Southern Eclectic, Book 1.5)
By Molly Harper
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi

Blurb:
A prank war erupts in Lake Sackett, Georgia, and coroner Frankie McCready has to turn to the gorgeous but surly new sheriff for help in Molly Harper's newest Southern Eclectic novella, perfect for fans of Kristan Higgins and Amy E. Reichert.

The McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop has crickets running rampant in the store and hot sauce in the Snack Shack's ketchup bottles. But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family's business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

Linden, who didn't seem to get the memo about men in uniform and Southern charm, is condescending and cold, revealing absolutely nothing about his past as an Atlanta police officer, while also making Frankie's job as coroner as difficult as possible. And with the town's Fourth of July celebration coming up, it's essential for McCready's to be cricket-free and in good working order. Strangling the sheriff will make her job even harder. Can Frankie hold off the threats to preserve her own sanity?

With her trademark "clever humor, snark, silliness, and endearing protagonists" (Booklist), Molly Harper invites fans to return to the family they first met in Sweet Tea and Sympathy. Y'all sit down and stay a while, won't you?

Viviana's Review:
OMG OMG OMG! I had to have this as soon as it came out! Frankie is one of my favorite characters in this series and to get a little something before the full length book release in June (the wait is killing me).

If you haven't listened to this series, its a must!! You will fall in love with the McCready family and the town of Lake Sackett! A great story and then add the fabulous narrator, Amanda Ronconi, its a winning combination!!

While this is a novella, you get a full story that leaves you wanting more!! You get a little bit of everything and if you've read the previous books in the series, you'll get to hang out with old friends! I really loved that we got to hang out with Frankie and getting to know her a bit better! Lets take a few minutes to talk about Sheriff Eric Linden... you get a sense that there is much more to him than meets the eye. Discovering what's up with Eric is something that you will end up having in common with Frankie!

Amanda knocks it out of the park again! She nails Frankie's personality and the entire McCready family! As I said before, when you combine Molly's writing with Amanda's performance, its epic!

Overall, this is a MUST READ for the series and if this is the first book you read of the series, catch up! You'll love them all!!

Audiobook Giveaway: How to Date Your Dragon by Molly Harper

I was so excited when I learned Molly would have an exclusive audiobook with Audible! Molly's stories are filled with unique and interesting characters that you will fall in love with. Add Amanda Ronconi's performance and the story is totally enhanced!! I'm used to Molly's stories  narrated solely by Amanda so I was a tad bit 'hmmmm' about having a male narrator, but Jonathan totally rocked his performance and I'm going to stalk, I mean follow him now.

Viviana's Review:
OMG I was extremely excited when I learned that Molly would be writing a new book that would be an Audible Exclusive! As more and more information came out the excitement just grew!! I LOVE Molly's books and HOW TO DATE YOUR DRAGON was no different!! The world building is done beautifully and you'll love all the characters that live in the Mystic Bayou!

We go through the journey with Jillian Ramsay, the heroine, learning about the residences of Mystic Bayou from her POV and interactions. I LOVED seeing (okay hearing but you know what I mean) her reactions to seeing the 'magic' taking place in this small town.

Hmmmm Bael Boone, the hero is as the blurb says the gruff town sheriff. He is weary of Jillian and the League. So you can imagine that their first meeting didn't go smoothly. However, they have to work together and they make it work!

There is lots of tension between Bael & Jillian which of course make things better for the reader/listener. I LOVED seeing the interaction between Bael and Zed and with other characters and then Jillian's interactions with these same characters and how they all love her and immediately connect. Bael & Jillian find common ground and their relationship flourishes.

Narrators' Review:

I'm used to listening to Amanda Ronconi when it comes to Molly's books, so I was intrigued to learn that this title would be a dual narration with Jonathan Davis. How was the duel narration vs. having Amanda narrate only.... I liked it however, there were a few issues that I will address below. I really enjoyed listening to Jonathan... this is actually my first time listening to him. I liked his deep and gravelly voice and it totally works for both Bael and Zed! Amanda ROCKS as usual!! I love her performance.

I believe that this would have benefited a lot if it was a duet narration. Jonathan's voice and tone is significantly different from Amanda's. Rather their performance is significantly different, that is. It is this difference that I had issues with as a listener.
The contrast in performance was vast especially with Amanda's upbeat tones and Jonathan's more casual performance.

There were several spots during Jonathan's narration where the audio volume was 'low'... I mean it sounded like he was down in a well... no bueno! This was distracting but also off putting considering this is an Audible production.

Lets talk accents.... if the characters are said to have accents, its important for both narrators to perform the accent. When one does and the other doesn't or the accent differs in intensity it not only distracting but can be off putting. I wish these issues were caught and corrected before the release as it would have made for a much better listen!!

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and love it, but I would have LOVED it even more if it were for the issues mentioned above. With that said, I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Audiobook Review: Sweet Tea and Sympathy by Molly Harper

Sweet Tea and Sympathy
(Southern Eclectic #1)
by Molly Harper
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi

Burb:
Beloved author Molly Harper launches a brand-new contemporary romance series, Southern Eclectic, with this story of a big-city party planner who finds true love in a small Georgia town.

Nestled on the shore of Lake Sackett, Georgia is the McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop. (What, you have a problem with one-stop shopping?) Two McCready brothers started two separate businesses in the same building back in 1928, and now it’s become one big family affair. And true to form in small Southern towns, family business becomes everybody’s business.

Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot’s rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society, and made elegance and glamour her business. She’s riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she’s blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start—and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

As Margot finds her footing in a town where everybody knows not only your name, but what you had for dinner last Saturday night and what you’ll wear to church on Sunday morning, she grudgingly has to admit that there are some things Lake Sackett does better than Chicago—including the dating prospects. Elementary school principal Kyle Archer is a fellow fish-out-of-water who volunteers to show Margot the picture-postcard side of Southern living. The two of them hit it off, but not everybody is happy to see an outsider snapping up one of the town's most eligible gentleman. Will Margot reel in her handsome fish, or will she have to release her latest catch?

Available for purchase at

Viviana's Review:
Oh my! Molly brought all the southern charm to all of the characters of SWEET TEA AND SYMPATHY! From Great-Aunt Tootie's gambling  to Cousin Marianne  going all dreamy eyed for her husband Carl (who totally returns the sentiment) to Cousin Frankie, Lake Sackett’s embalmer and county coroner, each of the family members of McCreadys are a hoot! They are what you expect from a large, loving, full of best of intentions family!

Molly truly has a gift with words and how she tells a story. I can totally invision the seen where things go spectacularly wrong! OMG I was laughing out loud and feeling so bad for Margot and when that happens, the laughter and the emotion, THAT right there is when I knew this book was going to be awesome! When an author can bring out the emotions of a reader, its magic!

Margot has a lot of going on from losing her job, her apartment and being blacklisted from every event planner company. When she gets a call from a family member that could potentially solve her immediate problems, she gives it a go. Through the pages, we see Margot getting acclimated to her new environment and new family members. Its a completely different set of society rules and as an "outsider" the town makes their feelings known.

Narrator's review:
Amanda totally rocks this story and brings life to the characters! Molly and Amanda are a fantastic partnership, Molly with her story telling and Amanda with her performance.

Overall, this is a great start to a hilarious new series and I'm totally getting the prequel novella!

Rating: 4.5 Stars - LOVED IT ALOT  - Couldn't put it down!
