Tying up...Loose Ends

In Kristen Ashley's first anthology, listeners will find three short stories and two novellas taking them back to characters and series in the Kristen Ashley universe.

"No Clue", a short story - Visit with Joe and Vi from At Peace of The 'Burg series and learn how Joe breaks up a fight between his sons, what Ryker's up to and why, exactly, his wife Violet has no clue.

The Stars Aligned, a novella - The long-awaited love story of Hap and Luci. Introduced in Heaven and Hell, listeners learned, after a heartbreaking journey through grief, Luci was ready to take another chance at love. But Hap was adhering to "the code" between brothers, unwilling to betray his dead friend Travis by falling for Travis's widow. Further, Hap can't quite believe a beauty like Luci could fall for a normal guy like Hap. But for Luci and Hap the heart can't be denied. Especially when the stars align.

"The Favor", a short story - Deacon and Cassidy from Deacon of the Unfinished Heroes series go back to their favorite cabin at Glacier Lily, and there, Cassie asks her husband a favor. He'll give her anything she wants. Including this.

More Than Everything, a novella - Listeners left Diesel, Maddox and Molly at a crossroads at the end of The Greatest Risk of the Honey series. Maddox and Molly were all in with their commitment to their unconventional love triangle. But Diesel was letting the pressures and prejudice of family and society sink under his skin, making him hold himself distant from the man he loved. Can Maddox and Molly lead Diesel fully into their lives and give him more than everything?

"Rock Chick Renewal", a short story - Tod has been planning Rock Chick weddings for years. He's got a new one on his hands. And it's not what he expected.

Viviana's Review:

"No Clue": Okay so I haven't read/listened to the "At Peace" of The 'Burg series. However, "No Clue" was a perfect little sample that made me want more! So I ran and looked the book up and added it to my library to listen to it. It was a cute short story and for readers/fan of the series, I'm sure it gave them a nice glimpse of what the couple has being up to and for them to reconnect with them.

"The Stars Aligned": is one of the two novellas included in LOOSE ENDS. I really enjoyed it! This could totally also be read as a standalone. You got a little bit of hints of what must have happened to them within a book in the series, but the information was sprinkled here and there so you were not lost what so ever. Apparently, Hap and Luci were introduced in "Heaven and Hell" and are fan favorites! I can see why! This story had a little bit of everything and was just long enough to get everything you wanted from it! There was one character that now I'm hoping Kristen will give him his HEA!! Fingers crossed!!

"The Favor": really cute!! This was definitely an opportunity to get a glimpse at Deacon and Cassidy. Needless to say... all is going pretty good!!! I do enjoy it when we get to revisit a couple and "check in" on them so to speak.

"More Than Everything": The other novella included is about Diesel, Maddox, and Molly who were introduced in Kristen's "The Greatest Risk" of the Honey series. If you haven't read the "The Greatest Risk", no worries! Kristen did a great job in giving the readers enough information to know what's going on and this is truly a story about how Diesel needs to come to terms about certain things and accepting that he is worth it. I enjoyed it but did think that it was going on a little longer than necessary. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of sexy time (LOL) just thought that there was a bit too much internal struggle going on which became a bit repetitive so when the sexy time pops up, some felt a wee bit of a filler. I guess I wanted to see how things would end and of course the HEA. I will say that Kristen does a great job of writing the sexy time scenes. This is MM & MF & MFM and MMF and BDSM is included so while it may not be for everyone, anyone diving into the series for the first time will see how Kristen writes and will be wanting to read the HONEY SERIES!

"Rock Chick Renewal" was a really short story and cute and very sweet!!

"Fairy story"... this was a brand new story and I'm hoping an introduction to a new series Kristen is writing! It was cute and you were totally rooting for the fairy and her cause. Can't say more as it would be considered a spoiler and we wouldn't want that!!

NARRATORS REVIEW:
This was a great cast of narrators!! Will say that I wish that a male narrator was selected to do the "Rock Chick Renewal" as it was a male POV and while the narrator is awesome, I think it would have benefited from a male narrator because of the POV. I LOVED the female narrator for "The Stars Aligned" as her Italian accent was perfect! The narrators all did a great job in their performance which adds to making it an even better story.

Overall, this is a fan's dream come true!! When we as readers/listeners fall for characters, we want to see what has become of them after we get their HEA! Sometimes, a secondary character makes a bigger mark than the author originally intended! "Loose Ends" provides us with a glimpse to some of our favorites!

Rating: 4.Stars - I LOVED IT

Audio Book Review: The Bourbon Kings

The Bourbon Kings
(The Bourbon Kings Series, #1)
by J.R. Ward
Narrated by Alexander Cendese

Blurb:
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege—and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal....

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

Viviana's Review:

I was really excited when I first found out about a new series being written by J.R. Ward and that it would be similar to the style of Downtown Abbey. Upon receiving the ARC from the Publisher I was all giddy with excitement and immediately started reading. Unfortunately, the story was slow starting and dragged. the characters lacked that spark that made you fall for them. This was quickly becoming a DNF! YIKES!! I was struggling! I decided to put it away and see if the audiobook version would be any better.

I'm an audiobook lover and have found that a good/great narrator can bring a story to life. Which is why I opted to give the audiobook of this book a try. Alexander Cendese is the narrator and this is the first time I listen to a book narrated by him. His voice immediately reminded me of what one may think of uppy up rich Kentucky money. LOL. This is a good thing.

While Alexander made listening to the story better, I can tell you the story still dragged. Part of the issue is that the book is way too long. The other factor are the characters... There are just no redeeming qualities to the majority of them. Brats!

Overall, this is a drama-filled family saga. This is NOT a romance. Perhaps if it was marketed as such it would have been a better read... maybe... who knows... If you like to read novels filled with larger than life characters, and never ending drama then you'll enjoy this! Otherwise... this will make a good tv series, which is in the works! :)

Rating: 2 Stars - It was okay
