Audiobook Review: Dating You / Hating You by Christina Lauren

Dating You / Hating You
by Christina Lauren
Narrated by Shayna Thibodeaux & Deacon Lee

Blurb:

All's fair in love and work. The first stand-alone romance by New York Times best-selling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively listenable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend's Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they're both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn't enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge - causing the pair to vie for the same position - all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both 30-something professionals - so why can't they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you will get to enjoy Christina Lauren's heartfelt, raucous, and hilarious romance style at its finest.

 Viviana's Review:
When I first began listening to "Dating You / Hating You" I was intrigued and hopeful, especially when I learned she was "older" (aka 30 yrs old) then the usual heroine in novels. She was also had a successful career and she seemed happy with her life. Then we came to the part of the Halloween party where she began the "I'm not enough" / comparison conversation/dialogue. I really wanted to read a heroine that was more secured in herself. As I was about hit stop and have this be a DNF, a friend learned I was listening to it and we started chatting about it. I let her know what I was about to do and she asked that I give it another chance. She LOVED it and thought I'd love it as well. As she is a dear friend, we have similar tastes in books and I trust her judgement, I hit play and gave it another go.

I'm glad I listened to her. The story improved and so did the characters. The story was fun and it was great to listen to the banter between the hero and the heroine. Also, some of their antics were hysterical!

Narrator Review:
Shayna is a new to me narrator. I've listened to one or two books that Deacon has narrated and he's on my list of narrators that I love/like! I think he was a perfect match for Carter and his performance was great. Shayna, took me a little getting used to as she has a raspier tone to her voice than I'm used to. After a while, it wasn't an issue and I grew to enjoy it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would like to read more from Christina Lauren! The characters were fun to read and get to know. I really loved that Evie was 'older' and that Carter didn't bat an eye to the difference (again, not a major one, but still a difference in which he is younger). The writing was also good!

Rating: 4 Stars - I Loved It
