Audio Book Lovin' Presents: Alice Clayton Guest Post

Kelly, from Books-n-Kisses  and I are extremely excited to have Alice Clayton as part of our Audio Book Lovin' Series.  Alice, thank you so much for hanging out with us today! Alice is sharing some of her favorite audiobooks with us today, so if you click on the images it will send you to the its Audible page for more information. :)

The first audiobook I ever listened to was Prey, by Michael Crichton.

It was 2003 and I was driving from Charlotte NC to St. Louis MO by myself, to see Mr. Alice. I had 750 miles to kill, and knew I'd likely be delirious by the time I made it (I was determined to make it in one day) and I knew it was going to take more than just listening to the soundtrack to Wicked over and over again. I trotted myself to Barnes & Noble before I left NC, and found myself considering my first audiobook purchase.

I'd been wanting to read a Crichton novel for some time, but I was so busy it just never happened. I thought, two birds and one 750 mile stone, here we go.

I was hooked! Every time I had to stop for gas or healthy snacks (Coca Cola and Slim Jims) I couldn't wait to get back into the car, to get back into the chapter. I was talking back to my console, screaming and gasping and so totally invested in the story that by the time I made it to St. Louis, I actually circled Mr. Alice's house a few times to get to the end of the chapter.

So began my love of audiobooks. Sometimes it was a way to read the latest novel when I didn't have the time to read, (Duma Key by Stephen King)

or it was a way to expand my experience of a book I'd read countless times and wanted something new (The Stand by Stephen King).

If you've noticed a pattern here, I love me some King...

Another early favorite was The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction.

I already loved Jon Stewart, hearing him read this audiobook made me an even bigger fan.

So the first time I got to hear one of my books made into an audiobook, I felt like a big grown up author. Now any of you who are familiar with Wallbanger, will know that it begins with a few Thuds, and a few Oh Gods. Yeah. First time I fired up this bad boy audiobook to give a listen I humiliated myself in a hotel room somewhere on the Gulf Coast. Once again on a road trip, I listened to it for the first time when I was helping my father and his wife move everything to their new home in Florida, and I thought I'd be all "Hey look how cool your daughter is, she has her own audiobook". Yeah, it was cool, but I was not.

Now I've got 8 audiobooks, and that fact alone makes me feel like a big grownup author. With a few more on the way, all new silly and steamy scenes coming right at you this fall. So take us on road trips, take us on trains, take us into big meetings where you need to pretend to be paying attention but really just want to listen to Thud and Oh God through your earbuds.

You'll be glad you did!

Alice, thanks again for hanging out with us and not only sharing some of your favorite audiobooks but also the story of how it all started and that oh so hilarious moment of "oh gods". LMAO!  I think we had all had a moment or situation similar to that with an audio book. Nothing like accidentally hitting play when the characters say something inappropriate for a 12 year old to hear SMH jeez...
