People often ask how I came to choose Weddings as the common theme through this series…and I think the answer is pretty simple. I’m obsessed. I love writing about them! When it came to kicking off my own Happily Ever After, I was living 2149 miles away. Not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump back to Chicago where our wedding would be held.
So how to plan?
Well, as it happened, my super stylish, much cooler, and soon-to-be-engaged-herself little sister happened to be feeling generous with a hefty hunk of her time. Yeah, I lucked out in no small way. My part in the planning of our big day was primarily handled over two weekends, when I flew home to buy a dress and basically approve the planning she and my dad had done for me. Seriously, my wedding was perfect and gorgeous and miles beyond what I would have come up with on my own. I loved it.
But I didn’t plan it.
It wasn’t my blood, sweat and tears behind the sugar crusted fruit arrangements at each table. The soles of my shoes weren’t worn out from making the trek from one venue to the next searching out the perfect space. It wasn’t my last nerve on the line meeting photographer after photographer.
It’s not like I believe I missed out, and yet…I seem to find myself planning fictional weddings on the regular! It’s totally cheating, I know. The only things that go wrong, go wrong because I want them too. Which sounds terrible, lol! But in my defense, for every wedding day catastrophe I cackle over creating, I always balance it with a blow-out happily ever after in the end, lol!!
