Blog Tour, Author Interview & Giveaway: Tessa Ever After by Brighton Walsh

Welcome to Enchantress of Books Brighton! Your latest book comes out tomorrow, May 5th! Reviewers are raving about it! Please tell us about your latest release, TESSA EVER AFTER.

Hi! Thanks for having me! TESSA EVER AFTER is the companion to last year’s CAGED IN WINTER and is the story of a strong-willed single mom who struggles to find her Happily Ever After and instead finds herself in lust with Mr. Wrong—a charming playboy who happens to be her brother’s best friend.

Gatta love the a boy with Charm! The CAGED IN WINTER series is a NA, what do you love most about writing in the genre?

It’s hard to pick just one thing I love most about writing New Adult, but if I had to pick, I’d say the freeness of the category. Because it came to be mostly via indie authors, there really aren't rules as far as narration or content, and that leaves the doors wide open for authors.

What is your favorite thing about Jason and Tessa as individuals?

My favorite thing about Jason is his humor. He doesn't take life too seriously and knows how to have a good time. My favorite thing about Tessa is how giving and self-sacrificing she is. She gave up a lot for her daughter, and I think that’s really admirable.

What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?

There are so many that I love! But one that stands out to me is when Jason is teaching Haley how to do a maniacal laugh. I don’t put a lot of my life into my books, but this scene was definitely inspired by my husband doing this with our youngest.
~ Scene ~

I push back the covers and pull on a pair of yoga pants under the oversize T shirt I slipped into last night before finally falling asleep pressed against Jason. When I step out into the hallway, I hear the laughter again, only this time I’m aware enough to realize it’s not Jason’s normal laugh, but an exaggerated, deep and haunting one followed closely by a higher-pitched, softer laugh attempting to mimic the original.

“That’s good, but do it deeper. Like this,” Jason says, then proceeds with the maniacal laugh again. “From your belly, shorty. Make ’em think you’re crazy evil.”

My perfect, angelic daughter who dresses up in tutus and has tea parties with her teddy bears does as Jason instructs and lets out a perfect replication of his evil-villain laugh, and I can’t help the smile from spreading across my face. Quietly, I creep down the hallway and through the living room, peeking around the corner and into the kitchen, where they sit at the island, way more donuts than the three of us could reasonably eat spread out in front of them. Haley’s arms are around the pile perched on the plate in front of her, like she’s protecting them from all the trolls roaming around the house.

“There, now you've got it! Make sure everyone knows whose donuts these are.”

She lets loose another laugh, growing louder each time until her head is tossed back, and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this sight. This is everything I've been striving for for so long—someone to take the occasional early-morning shift so I could sleep in an extra hour. Someone to laugh with Haley, have fun with her, and do things with her I don’t. Someone to take her out at 6 a.m. for a donut run just because she no doubt begged for it . . . just because it would make her happy.
Jason laughs along with her, both of them cackling like crazy lunatics, and I want to go over and smother them both in kisses, squeeze them until this bubble of euphoria has a way of escaping my body. I want to have mornings like this . . . forever.

With them, I want forever.
~ End of Scene ~

OMGosh! I can see why that is your favorite! And I just think I fell in love with Jason! Sigh.... Sorry, back to the interview.... Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?

Nope, I’m pretty boring when I write. All I need is my Mac and earbuds, and I’m good to go. I don’t have to drink/eat anything or be in a certain place to get the words done. I just need to be able to focus, and that’s where the earbuds come in.

Thank you very much for hanging out with us today Brighton!

Tessa Ever After
(Caged in Winter #2)
by Brighton Walsh

Blurb:
In this grippingly emotional New Adult novel from the author of Caged in Winter, what you want isn’t always what you need…

Jason’s been living (and loving) the rich playboy lifestyle for five years, but now his parents are pressuring him to get involved in the family business. The last thing he wants is another obligation, but when his best friend moves out of state and asks Jason to look after his sister, he can’t just say no.

Tessa had to grow up way too soon. After dealing with the aftermath of her parents’ deaths, then becoming a teenage mom, she knows the meaning of responsibility. Which is why, at twenty-two, she’s looking for so much more than a party boy. She’s looking for someone who can stand by her and her daughter…forever.

A relationship between them is doomed from the start, but who says they can’t have a little fun? But as Jason gets closer to Tessa—and her daughter—fun starts to turn into something else… Something Jason’s not sure he’s ready for.

About the Author

Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before deciding to take her storytelling in a different direction and reconnect with her first love: writing. When she’s not pounding away at the keyboard, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and two children, and, yes, she considers forty degrees to be hoodie weather. Her home is the setting for frequent dance parties, Lego battles, and more laughter than she thought possible.
