Book Review: Sterling by Dannika Dark

Sterling
(Mageri Series, Book #1)
By Dannika Dark

Synopsis:
Zoë Merrick lived a less than ordinary life, until late one night, she was brutally attacked and left for dead.

A man named Adam spotted her running down the road covered in blood, and took her under his wing. Zoë didn't just survive that night - she underwent a physical transformation and acquired strange new abilities. Severed from her old life, her frustration grows as she tries to comprehend what's happening to her.

Serendipity leads her to Justus. He's handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. Zoë learns the truth about what she is, and just how dangerous their world is for a young Mage. The only way she will understand her power is by putting her trust in this man, and accepting the protection he offers.

When her immortal freedom is threatened by the one man who has a right to claim her, Zoë learns the price of freedom...and the value of loyalty.

Viviana's Review:
This book kept popping up on Amazon on my “suggestion” list. It also came up a lot in the book club that I’m a part of and they all raved about it. So I bought it and began to read it the day of purchase. OMG!! I devoured the book and immediately purchased the second book "Twist" (review to come soon)!

Where to start? Though this is the first book in a series, you’re not inundated with information to assist in the world building. As with other series where one of the characters is “learning” about the new world they have been thrusted into, we learn as Zoe learns.

Speaking of Zoe…. She is smart and independent. She is a survivor! She fights until she can’t anymore and even then, she’s still trying. Her world as she knew it is gone. Abandoned and left for dead she finds a guardian angel in Adam who helps her in her time of need. They form a friendship and both are learning of the changes that are occurring to and with Zoe.

But Adam isn’t the only man to come to Zoe’s aide. She meets Justus by chance and there begins her induction to the Mageri world. To assist Justus in her training, he brings his friend Simon in. Together, they all try to help Zoe overcome her past and survive her future.

Though labeled “Urban Fantasy”, Dannika doesn’t stay within the lines of the genre making this an extremely interesting read with elements of Urban Fantasy, Paranormal and Romance. Her writing style is smooth, easy to follow and extremely entertaining. Dannika brings her characters to life with individual personalities and traits which include sarcasm, sassiness, humor, mystery, smarts, brooding, bad-ass  etc.  It’s truly a breath of fresh air. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention, silly me! The guys… HOT!

I could tell you more but that would be a spoiler and we wouldn’t want that, now would we?

Currently Dannika is having a blog tour for “Impulse”, book 3 in the Mageri Series, with awesome guest posts, reviews, excerpts and a fantastic giveaway that includes an ebox set of the Mageri Series, Key Chains, Autographed Book Cover photos, a car charm and a surprise gift from Justus! Visit her website for the dates and blogs so you can follow along and gain additional entries.

Have you read Sterling? What did you think?

Rating: 4 Stars - Loved It!
