Audiobook Lovin 2019 Presents: Tara Lain's Guest Post & Giveaway

Please welcome Author Tara Lain to
Audiobook Lovin'!!

My Love Affair with Audiobooks!

Hi. I’m so happy to get to be a part of Audiobook Lovin’. Such a great event and it celebrates one of my favorite things – audiobooks.

My first taste of audiobooks was way back in the day when they used to abridge novels in audio. I hated them. Who wanted to listen to somebody’s idea of a story? I wanted a book! Then I became an addict of the Great Courses, college courses on every possible topic from top professors presented unabridged and taught by the professors themselves. Holy cow, I spent so much money on CDs I could listen to during my commute to work and got to indulge in classes of music, history, philosophy and literature. (You can now get the Great Courses on Audible, most for one credit and they’re awesome!)

My own books were released in audio for a good year before I finally got the audio fever. I seldom read my books after they’re edited and published and I couldn’t imagine the agony of listening to someone read them. But then I was wondering about the narration on Knight of Ocean Avenue and I downloaded the book and listened! Instant hook. It was like the narrator put just enough distance between me and the story that I could enjoy it as a book separate from my own writing. I now listen to all my books and actually enjoy them. But during that experience I discovered the wonder of audio.
  • I love to walk and go to the gym. My books always go with me and make me look forward to exercise as a chance to indulge in stories by all my fave authors.
  • One night I was having trouble falling asleep. I plugged in an earbud, set the timer and let a great narrator tell me a story as I fell asleep. Now it’s a part of bedtime.
  • Since then, the audio accompaniment has spread out to other parts of my life -- putting on makeup, doing housework, and occasionally driving in the car (I don’t do that much anymore).
  • I’m an Audible subscriber and I’m obsessed with the Daily Deal. I’ve found so many great books – both fiction and non - -that I likely would never have tried if they weren’t on super sale. I literally sampled the first book in an author’s series on the Daily Deal and have since bought around 15 of that author’s audiobooks. Obsession for sure!

About the only time I buy an ebook these days is if I want to read it and know it will never be in audio. Otherwise, audiobooks are my drug of choice.

I actually have two new audiobooks out this month that I’m very excited about. Interestingly, while I write more contemporary, both of these books are paranormal. HIDDEN POWERS is the first book in my new young/new adult series called The Superordinary Society, and SPELL CAT is a bestselling book in The Aloysius Tales about the greatest male with in 10 generations – who happens to be gay. About The Author

Tara Lain believes in happy ever afters – and magic. Same thing. In fact, she says, she doesn’t believe, she knows. Tara shares this passion in her best-selling stories that star her unique, charismatic heroes — the beautiful boys of romance —  and adventurous heroines. Quarterbacks and cops, werewolves and witches, blue collar or billionaires, Tara’s characters, readers say, love deeply, resolve seemingly insurmountable differences, and ultimately live their lives authentically. After many years living in southern California, Tara, her soulmate honey and her soulmate dog decided they wanted less cars and more trees, prompting a move to Ashland, Oregon where Tara’s creating new stories and loving living in a small town with big culture. Likely a Gryffindor but possessed of Parseltongue, Tara loves animals of all kinds, diversity, open minds, coconut crunch ice cream from Zoeys, and her readers. She also loves to hear from you.
