Book Review (Audio): Him by Carey Heywood

Him
(Him Series, bk 1)
By Carey Heywood
Narrator: Lucy Rivers

Blurb:
Sarah Miller hasn't been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn't for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him.

That guy. The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget.

All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.

Viviana's Review:
The cover grabbed my attention from the very first time I saw it. Totally different from everything currently out there. As they say different is good! :)

Sarah loves her best friend Will. Will doesn't know it. Will loves his befriend, Sarah and she doesn't know it. See where this is going? LOL.

I loved that the book flips between the past and the present, which helps the reader understand where everything started. This also something I really enjoyed as it wasn't an "instant" love thing. Or a "I saw him smile, and I was in love" and by the way, I just met him sort of story line that tends to be the case in many romances. Their feelings for each other developed through time and by nourishing a friendship. The flashbacks lets you get to know them when they were young and teenages and gives you that glimpse as to why they are the way they are today. There was this one moment in the 'past' that something is said and then the next chapter is the present. You have that moment of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

The author makes us wait two chapters later that they go back to the 'past' to that moment and nothing.... Talk about a build up and let down. BUT staying with it, the author teases us with a few more moments of "will they" or "won't they" and it's AWESOME!

So through the most of the book, you're trying to figure out what the heck happened that caused her to run away from every one and everything. When you do finally figure it out, you'll be "if only they just talked to each other" or "if she would have confronted him, then it would have all come to light and they would have had a great life". BUT if that were to have happen, we wouldn't be reading this book, now would we?

Both Sarah and Will are great characters on their own and together sparks fly. Carey does a great job of showing you how they were and what occurred to get them where they are currently at. I know some of the reviews have said that his reaction to finally finding out the why was too laid back. He wasn't blazing mad. I think that while that may have been a reaction we would have wanted to see, it really goes to show you where his priorities are when it comes to her.

Narrator Review: Lucy does a great job narrating this. Each characters have their own voice and personality. I really liked what she did. I've looked at her work and have added some of the books she narrates to my TBR List.

Overall, a great read! If you need a break from a genre you normally read, I recommend this book. A quick read and not too deep or dramatic. New to audio books, this one is also one I would recommend as the narrator did a great job!

Rating: 4 Stars - LOVED IT
