Guest Post: Midnight Hunter by Kait Ballenger

Hi Everyone! I'm excited to have author Kait Ballenger with us here today! We're celebrating her latest release "Midnight Hunter", which is book three in the Execution Underground Series and scheduled to release tomorrow, but, you can pre-order it today!
One of the things I always find interesting is how the author creates the tension between the Hero and the Heroine! I've asked Kait to share with us who she goes about it!

Anyone who has ever read one of my novels knows I love tension. Whether its tension that has you on the edge of your seat wondering whether a character will survive or tension between the hero and a certain sexy someone, the Execution Underground novels are never short on moments that will make you bite your nails in anticipation. When I set out to write Midnight Hunter, my approach was no different than my previous novels. There needed to be tension and lots of it, particularly between the hero and heroine in order to deliver the page-turning novels I know my readers expect. How does an author create that driving force that leaves readers wanting more?

To be honest, it’s really very simple. In order to create tension, there must be something a character
wants and something must be standing in the way of that want. That’s what creates tension. That’s what creates conflict. Tension and conflict are those parts of the story where you just can’t wait to see what happens next. The fate of the characters, their wants, their needs, sometimes their lives hang in the balance.

For Midnight Hunter, the romantic tension comes from the opposites attract paradigm and the idea of forbidden love. The hero and main character, Dr. Shane Grey, is a professor by day and a witch hunter by night. The heroine, Vera Sanders, a woman Shane desperately wants, is not only forbidden from him because she is his student, but she is his fundamental opposite: a black magic practicing witch. Both characters want one another, but their backgrounds, life situations, their fears, and secrets are holding them back. Shane and Vera have a lot to reconcile in Midnight Hunter, but that’s part of my challenge as an author: to help them reconcile their differences and find their happily ever after.

Because Shane and Vera are so very very different, Midnight Hunter is full of tension that simmers like a low-boiling pot until the very end when the heat has been bubbling for so long that everything boils over. So how do a witch and a witch hunter, a professor and his student, fall in love despite it all, you may ask? Well, you’ll just have to read Midnight Hunter to find out...

(Execution Underground Series, Bk #3)
by Kait Ballenger

Blurb:
Hunters of the supernatural, The Execution Underground are an elite group tasked with protecting humanity…but can dark temptation destroy good intentions?

Occult specialist and witch hunter Dr. Shane Grey is called upon to investigate a string of crimes that bear all the hallmarks of black magic. But he can't take on this daunting assignment for the Execution Underground alone. He'll need the help of Vera Sanders, a witch with a dark past—and a woman who disturbs him as much as she intrigues him.

Vera is determined to ignore the dangerous chemistry between herself and Shane so she can prove her loyalty to his cause; otherwise she risks the wrath of the Execution Underground once again. If she can't make Shane trust her, they won't stand a chance in hell of defeating the evil that's terrorizing their city. No easy task, considering old habits die hard…and Vera may be the very person responsible for luring Shane into a killer's trap.
