Guest Post & GIveaway: Gravity by Dannika Dark

Extremely happy to have Dannika Dark with us today sharing with us a recent visit
she had with Silver!!

Thank you Enchantress for having me! Love our visits and always look forward to them!

I decided to drop in on Silver to check on her while in town this week. She left me a text message and seemed stressed over something. Justus answered the door all sweaty, wearing a black tank top and sweats. He wrapped a small towel around the back of his neck and nodded toward the kitchen before walking down the hallway and disappearing out of sight.

As I take a few paces forward and peer to my right, I see Silver sitting on the floor, holding a cookbook in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other.

Still corked, thankfully.

Dannika: “Everything okay in here?”

Silver: “No. I’m just busy ruining everything.”

I peer over the stove and see a few pots going, and something smells good.

Dannika: “It looks like you have things under control. What’s the occasion? I know you aren’t a fan of cooking,” I say with an understanding smile, leaning against one of the cabinets.

Silver: “I’m trying to make a romantic dinner for Logan. Chitahs don’t really approve of females cooking for them, but he’s made the exception. But now I feel like his expectations will be high, so I want to get it right.”

She blows a strand of hair away from her face and stands up, putting the bottle of wine on the cabinet.

Dannika: “You’re overthinking it, Silver. You could serve that man a corndog and he’d go crazy for it.” I bend over and lift the cookbook, noticing fingerprint smudges on the page. “So are you having appetizers or a salad?”

Silver: “Logan isn’t much of a salad eater,” she says with a twinkle in her green eyes. “He’s not like Justus who will suck a bone dry of the meat, but he likes a hearty meal. I had to call Leo to see what he might like for an appetizer, and he said to feed the man fried mozzarella sticks.”

Dannika: “Do you know how to make those?”

She turns her mouth to the side and pulls open the freezer door, dropping a bag onto the cabinet.

Silver: “Hell no. Leo said he likes these, and I have no idea how to roll cheese in bread and fry it without setting myself on fire.”

I chuckle as she tosses them back in the freezer.

Dannika: “He’ll love it. Romance doesn’t mean homemade; it just means making the evening special. If that’s what he loves, then he’ll love you all the more that you made them for him.”

Silver: “I know, you’re right. It’s just that he took me to that fancy restaurant and I feel like I need to raise the bar or something.”

Dannika: “What’s the main course?”

Her face beams.

Silver: “I’m making filet mignon, roasted red potatoes, and asparagus. I don’t really care for the green stuff, but Justus suggested it. He basically told me that no male of worth will turn down a steak. I practiced making it for Justus this week and I know Logan will love it.”

Dannika: “Sounds delicious! See, there’s no reason to get anxious. This will be perfect. Is that the wine you’re having?”

Silver glances over her shoulder and tugs at the end of her T-shirt.

Silver: “Do you know how much that bottle costs? Justus told me it’s a few hundred dollars. That’s a little bit much, don’t you think?”

Dannika: “Does Logan like wine? I say go for it. Just think about all the times Justus made you do sit-ups and weights until your ass cried out in pain.”

Silver: “You know what? You’re right,” she says, nodding her head. “Logan loves red wine, so this will be perfect.” She waltzes over to the stove and moves one of the pots off the burner. “I’m also boiling carrots just in case he doesn’t like asparagus. I can’t really remember if I’ve ever seen him eat it. I thought about doing Chinese, but that would be predictable. I want to surprise him.”

I turn around and look into the dining room. There are candles lit across the long table, picking up a soft brown glow from the hammered wood. Someone placed a small bouquet of roses with the stems cut short in a round vase and placed it in the center. Then I glance at Silver and chuckle.

Dannika: “Is that what you’re wearing?”

Silver: “No, I still have enough time to get myself together. I have this silky black dress that goes just to the knee, and a pretty blue necklace with a matching bracelet. As you can see, I’m wearing my hair up. Logan likes it when he can see my neck and...”  She smiles shyly and bites her lip.

Dannika: “So, Justus will be hanging out in the living room watching TV while you two are in there?”

She snorts.
Silver: “God no. He’s going out for the night to get his freak on at the club, most likely. I don’t care where he goes, but he’s going. Justus gave me a bit of a lecture and alluded that he could come home at any time, so I better act like a lady. You know, that whole fatherly attitude of his has gone a little too far. I’m not thirteen, and Logan is not helping to tutor me.”

A laugh flies out of my mouth.

Dannika: “Oh, really?”

Silver smiles and her brows pop up.

Silver: “Maybe if Justus shows up early, the lady will be lying on the dining table with the tutor eating dessert off her chest.”

Dannika: “I wouldn’t even entertain that idea,” I said, peering around the corner.

Silver: “I’m kidding, of course. Well, then again...”

Dannika: “What’s for dessert?”

Silver: “Lemon cake,” she says with a wink.

About the Author

Down in Texas, there's a woman who drinks copious amounts of vitamin water placed precariously close to her laptop. Yeah, I know. I've got a drinking problem. Hi, I'm Danni.

I recently became a Full Time Writer. When I'm not writing, I'm listening to obscure music, watching movies, reading, discovering new ways to humiliate myself bowling, and burning up my laptop battery on the internet. I live with a cat who thinks she is a dog, or a goat (she eats plastic, so I'm not sure which).

Some people count sheep when they have insomnia. Since I was little, I used to make up stories in my head in a futile attempt to bore myself to sleep. The problem was, I'd get so wrapped up in my "head stories" that I would continue them through the following nights, changing it up each time to make it more exciting. Eventually, I started writing my ideas down more and more, creating short stories which evolved into poetry.

Lots and lots of poetry. It's almost embarrassing that I have an entire box loaded with spiral notebooks filled with furious, heartfelt, and blushing words. Apparently, I had a lot to say.

Another one of my hobbies is digital art. I designed all my book covers.

I am finally doing what I have always wanted to: giving my characters a pulse through publishing. I write adult urban fantasy romance, but I don't like labels. I let the story tell itself, and color outside the lines. I am not a YA author, but I think it’s pretty great that there are so many books available to teens in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal. These are the future readers!

The work that goes behind self publishing is hard work, I won't lie. On top of my regular day job: I write, edit, format, create cover art, and market.

But it's what I love to do, and someday, I'm going to be doing this full time.
