Book Review (Novella): Closer by Dannika Dark

Closer
By Dannika Dark

Synopsis:

Kane never believed in things like fate or karma. Not until the night he took a life.

Within the human world is a secret society of immortals and gifted supernaturals. Kane is one of them—a Sensor who experiences emotional energy through touch. But despite his good looks and easy-going personality, Kane lives a solitary life. Unlike other Sensors, he is unnaturally hypersensitive.

Touch brings pain.

Fate throws a curveball when a woman’s life is placed in his hands. Kane is suddenly faced with a difficult decision, each with its own moral consequence, and time is not on his side.

Could she be his salvation, or his ruination?

Viviana's Review:

I’m a huge fan of Dannika Dark’s “Mageri Series” and was extremely excited to find out that she had written a Novella and of course it was a must read!

This novella is set within the Mageri World but not specifically within the world. Yeah, I know that sounds a bit 'weird' or 'odd' but once you read it, you'll totally get what I'm saying!! We do learn more about the society’s view of “differences” within their own breeds. This brings an interesting perspective on how we treat each other our bias and how we judge others.

“Closer” is about two individuals who may not have ever met if it weren't for the circumstances they were thrown into and how they assist each other to survive and learn that they are not the only ones who are different.

Lots of emotions. WOW! Seriously WOW! Emotional roller coaster. I was extremely impressed on just how complete/full this story was considering it’s a novella! You wanted there to be more, not because something was left out or it had a cliff hanger, but because you wanted to know more about Kane and Caroline!

“Closer” can be read as part of the Mageri Series or as a standalone novella. Though I’m sure that if you haven’t read the Mageri Series, once you read this novella, you’re going to want to! Click on the book titles to read my reviews for Sterling, Twist and Impulse.
