Audiobook Review: Decadent Dreams by Nicole Garcia

Decadent Dreams
by Nicole Garcia
Narrated by Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross

Blurb:

Nico

My dreams haunt me. I feel as if I am falling into a pit of impending doom, but even that has not prepared me for the roller-coaster of emotions that flood over me when I'm near Phoenix. I have to keep my distance from her. I need to. It's the only thing I can do to keep from getting hurt again. Staying away from her proves to be a much harder task than I could have ever imagined. She's not only my assistant, but she's half my age. She gets under my skin and irritates the shit out of me, yet one smile, one laugh, and I'm melting into a puddle at her feet. Falling in love with her is a bad idea, a very bad idea, because she just may be the one person who breaks my heart for good this time.

Phoenix

Nico is my boss. He's demanding, bitter, brooding, and a downright bully at times. But, all that doesn't deter me from him at all. I can see the kindness and compassion in his eyes. I know the secret he's keeping from everyone and why he's so guarded with his heart. I don't care about his secret, nor do I care that he's twice my age. What matters is the undeniable attraction we feel for each other. If only he can just let go of the past and see what's right in front of him.

Author's note: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

Viviana's Review:
Enjoyable listen over all. It took me a little bit to warm up to Nico at first and Phe came across very mature for her age one minute and then would say or do something that reminded me of a teenage. This was a bit off-putting. There were also moments where the heroine was a bit annoying or when the hero would say or act completely out of 'character' based on what we've been told or seen thus far. I'll be honest that those are the moments that brought this review down a star as well as when the author 'tells' us what the characters are doing (i.e. I got out of bed, I went to the bathroom and washed my face, etc.). I think those stood out more in the audiobook vs. if it was read... maybe.

However, once the story got moving it got better. I totally fell for Gio and I'm looking forward to his story!!

The story is filled with hot and steamy scenes which I'm sure many readers will enjoy! I also enjoyed the interactions with Gio! He provided some humor and provided a different point of view for both Nico and Phe.

Narrators' Review
I really enjoyed both Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross performances. As this was a duet narration both narrators are performing with each other vs. taking turns per chapters. They each provided tones and voices for the characters.

Overall, it was a good story that has potential to be a great story. I'm looking forward to listening more about Gio and what comes next.

Rating: 3 Stars - I liked it.
