(Rock Kiss Series, #3)
by Nalini Singh
Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.
Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.
When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting—needing—to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.
This was a story that tugs at your heart and about a man that believes he's not worthy of being loved. A woman who loves him enough to fight for him, for their love and for a future she knows they can have if he's only willing to try.
Noah and Kit have a true friendship that they both cherish. They both know and understand how precious the bond of this friendship is. As with many friendships, theirs has blossomed into more and both deal with it in their own way. Unfortunately, hearts are broken.
I enjoyed seeing their interaction and the bantering. And while we learned that there was love in the beginning, I really liked that we saw them fall for each other all over again. However, I felt that Noah didn't really "fight" to want to be with her. He makes it obvious that he believes he's not worthy and stays ways, but wants to be in her life as a friend only. Yet, that desire to WANT to be with her doesn't come across. Also, when we find some things out (sorry, spoiler stuff) there is a "lack of research" that occurs so it seems like the heroine comes up with the idea/solution on her own/out of thin air instead of the fact that it's an actual type of solution. Can't say more without it being a spoiler. I think it would have had more impactful to the story if the character would have done "research".
Overall, it was a good read that moves the series along. I did enjoy the story! I like the characters. Wished there was more romance... but, the story was a good one. I'm glad I read it.
