Review: Michael's Wings by Tiffany Reisz

Michael's Wings
(The Original Sinners)
by Tiffany Reisz

Blurb:

Griffin has just popped the question--yes, that question--and Michael doesn't have an answer. He flees town for New Orleans to see his confidante and sometime-Domme, Mistress Nora. Will a weekend of beignets and beatings help him untangle his knotted-up heart?

Thus begins Michael's Wings, the eponymous novella that kicks off the latest entry in Tiffany Reisz's LAMBDA Literary Award-winning* Original Sinners series.

This companion collection to fan-favorite The Angel also contains six previously-published stories starring Mistress Nora's favorite angel and Griffin--his master, his true love, and the sexy-as-hell bane of Michael's existence.

NOTE: If you haven’t read the Original Sinners series, this collection of connected short stories and novellas isn’t the place to begin! Start with The Siren (available now from Mira Books).

Viviana's Review:

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! As usual, Tiffany doesn't disappoint! This collection gives you some insight to the characters and a different POV that we didn't get in the original stories!

I loved seeing the different sides of both Michael and Griffin and all the other awesome Original Sinners characters. Getting to see how some things occurred "behind the scenes" and getting to know them was great!

Michael & Griffin are so cute together! Like, really cute! They both have their insecurities but they work through them and those around them, the people they both hold dear to their hearts, support them 100% and truly care for them.

I've said it before, I LOVE Tiffany's writing style and she's a gifted story teller. She is able to make the readers connect with the characters, which enhances the story.

I loved it so much that even though I read the book, I automatically grabbed the audiobook and listened and fell in love all over again! Guy Locke, the narrator, not only has a yummy voice, he brought the characters to life.

Over all, this was a great read and listen. I love that we get these stories from the characters we love!

Rating: 4 Stars - LOVED IT!

Audiobook Review: Time to Lie by Phil Taylor

Time to Lie
(Landon Bridges' Story, Book 1)
By Phil Taylor
Narrated by Jeffrey Kafer

Blurb

Remember that time you dated that complete nutcase and said to yourself, "I wish Future Me would have come back and warned me about this"? Remember when you and your drunk friends said, "If it's such a bad idea, someone would come back from the future and stop us", right before it blew up in your face and got you in trouble? It would be great to have someone from the future to guide your life, wouldn't it?

Landon Bridges' life hasn't always been perfect, but now he's in college and determined to make a fresh start and transform himself from high school geek to college chic...well, less geeky guy. He's finally attained his life-long goal of studying physics in college under a renowned professor. He's met the girl of his dreams and made friends with some of the cool frat guys. Things are going great, until he shows up.

A mysterious stranger intervenes to help Landon out of a terrible, possibly life changing situation, but what does he want? Why does he keep showing up? Who is he? Landon's esteemed professor suddenly seems like a flake. Landon's briefly idyllic college world seems to be spinning out of control. Landon needs to control his world and, in the process of regaining his sanity and his grip on reality, he discovers that he has talents and allies that he never imagined. But is what they're telling him the truth?

The truth is just the lie we've chosen to believe, and yours may be different than mine.

Viviana's Review:
I really enjoyed TIME TO LIE. Landon was a hoot! His internal monologue was a riot! I also loved how the fourth wall was broken a few times.

We are in the same boat as Landon is when it comes to learning about his talents. This helps with the "showing" vs. "telling" of the story. We go along for the ride as Landon does and its an interesting ride! This was a unique take on the "time traveling" concept, which I throughly enjoyed.

Take the time travel element away and you still have good, solid story of college student finding his path in life and how those he surrounds himself with impact his life and choices! However, the time travel element adds volumes to the interactions and relationships once the twists and turns are revealed!!

This is a perfect example of when a good story is paired with an awesome narrator! Jeffrey's brilliant performance elevated the story and added a layer of realism to the characters! He provides distinct voices to every character and it was easy to follow them around.

Overall, this story had action, mystery, suspense, romance and it all made for a great story. I wanted more when the end was reached! I can't wait for the second book!!

Rating: 4 Stars - Loved It!!

 Excerpt
from Rough Night

“You taste better than any pie, my Charlie,” Ian whispered against her lips. His hands tightened on her and she felt one of those big palms stroke her thigh. “Why don’t you straddle me and let’s see what happens.”
She knew what would happen. She placed the tray of treats on the table beside them and gingerly shifted, twisting so she straddled her Master’s lap. Yes, there it was. His cock was right against her pussy. All she had to do was…
Ian groaned as she rolled her pelvis. “That’s right, baby. Now give me some of that sweet, sweet lemony goodness. Ride me and feed me. That’s what I want. Let me watch you come.”
“And if I can make you come?” It was a fun little game. She would try to see if she could get that big dick of his to go off before she did.
“Then I’ll walk around for the rest of the night a bit on the uncomfortable side,” he replied, his hands finding her hips. He shifted and she found herself with her clitoris in the perfect position. “But that’s not going to happen. I know exactly how to make you moan, Charlie baby.”
She felt her phone vibrate. Charlie winced. “It’s another text.”
He pumped his hips up against hers. “Answer it. If it’s anyone except Malone telling us one of the children is missing, I’m texting them a dick pic and asking them to leave us alone. Let’s see if you can text while I do this.”
His erection slid over the perfect place and Charlie could feel the orgasm starting to build. How could he still do this to her? All he had to do was start touching her, using that deep Dom voice on her, and her whole body was ready to comply to his any and every whim.
Did she have to answer? It probably wasn’t anything important. Was anything in the world as important as the way this man made her feel?
“Give me a taste of that tart, baby. Or better yet, pull those pretty nipples out and let me taste them. Let me lick and suck and bite on those sweet nipples.”
Her vision was going soft as he hauled her close.
And her phone vibrated again.
“Ian,” she started.
“Do what you need to,” he replied as he licked her collarbone. “I’ll do what I have to.”
She was going to kill whoever was texting her. It was probably Malone, trying to figure out where the damn marshmallows were.
She bit back a groan and reached for her phone. It better be so good because she was getting close, and the minute Ian started sucking on her breasts she wouldn’t be able to hold…
Do you have a fire extinguisher?
“What?” Charlie shifted, trying to get a better grip on the phone.
And the chair under Ian kind of exploded.
Charlie hit the floor, her knees knocking on the tile. Ian had gone backward but he’d managed to twist his body so he landed on his shoulder instead of knocking the back of his head against the windowsill.
Panic flooded Charlie’s veins. She scrambled to find her phone. “Ian?”
“I’m fine,” he groaned. “Call him. Damn it. Can’t we have one fucking night out without the world coming to an end? Ah, yeah, this is going to hurt.”
Had he thrown out his back again? She couldn’t stop and find out. Sarah Stevens was here somewhere and she was a nurse. Surely she could help.
Charlie grabbed the phone from the midst of the now fallen lemon tarts. The tray had turned over, but there were still several that had landed on the table. She would have to shove those in her purse if they were about to flee home. With shaking fingers she dialed the number for Michael.
“Hey, Charlotte, I think I got the fire out. Boomer stopped, dropped, and rolled on it. That did the trick. The girls thought it was hilarious, but we’ve got another problem now,” Michael was saying.
“There was a fire?” She practically screamed the question.
“Tell Boomer to sit on it,” Ian said from the floor. “Put him on speaker.”
She didn’t need his sarcasm, but he had the right to listen in. She clicked to go to speaker. “Where was the fire, Michael?”
“Well, you see when I told the girls we could have a campout in the living room, I kind of thought we would build a fort made out of sheets, you know what I’m talking about,” Michael continued, his Texas drawl slow and steady. “Damn, Charlotte. I didn’t think the girls would take it so literally.”
Her girls took everything literally. “The girls tried to start a fire? In my living room?”
“It was minor,” Michael promised. “Mostly because they couldn’t take apart the furniture to burn. That was their plan. Apparently Ian taught them how to use whatever’s around to stay warm in case they find themselves out in the woods at night. I saved the sofa, but they did manage to get that wicker basket of yours to burn. Kala said she had to use it because she couldn’t get to the hatchet.”
Charlie turned to her husband. “Why would our daughters know how to use a hatchet?”
He was a nice shade of pale and his shoulder seemed weird. “You told me to teach them some life skills.”

She was going to kill everyone.

Audiobook Review: Keeper by Amy Daws

Keeper
(Harris Brothers Series #3)
by Amy Daws
Narrated by Will M. Watt and Charlotte Cole

Blurb:
They were best friends until they became roommates.

Booker Harris has spent the last several years pushing himself to become the best goalkeeper in the Championship League. Tired of living in the shadows of his headline-splashing brothers, he has finally carved a path of his own.

As a child, Poppy McAdams was content in her own little make-believe world, until the boy next door with dimples and pained eyes came barreling into her makeshift fort demanding all her attention.

Best friends for most of their lives, everything changes when Poppy abruptly leaves London for University.

Now she is back, and gone is the awkward girl from Booker's youth. She has been replaced by a stunning woman with secrets.

Secrets that Booker is desperate to know.

Sharing a bedroom wall with your best friend from childhood quickly turns to anything but sweet and innocent.

Viviana's Review:
The blurb held promise and I was excited to listen to the audio as I've never read anything from Amy nor listened to Will or Charlotte. I was also looking forward to the duet narration and bonus, British accents!

I really wished I could give this a stellar review. Unfortunately, while the premise was a good one (best friends to lovers trope) it was poorly executed. As readers we go into the story knowing that Poppy and Booker are BFFs. The author takes EVERY POSSIBLE opportunity to tell us via the characters of that very fact! OMG, I almost yelled at my kindle "Are you kidding me! Dude, we KNOW she's your BFF.... stop telling!" And that's the problem right there.... we are told about their friendship over and over again and its not only distracting but complete overkill.

I ended up increasing the speed to 1.5x (so sorry for the narrators but it couldn't be helped) to speed the book along due to the repetitive dialogue and slow progression.

Narrator's Review: This is the first time I've listened to Will Watt and Charlotte Cole. This is a duet and I enjoyed their performance. There were a few times where I felt it was a bit over the top (i.e. Poppy sing song answering). Both have great voices and provide the characters their own personalities and tones.

Overall, it was okay. I had the opportunity to checkout a new to me author and narrators. Did it make me curious enough to check out the previous books (KEEPER is the third book in the series), not really. I know, I know it sounds bad, but with so many audiobooks out there.... I'm concerned that the previous stories will have the same/similar issues. I will say.... I'm a bit curious about the fourth brother. I'll check it out.

Rating: 2 Stars - It was ok.

Happy Release Day Molly!! Sweet Tea and Sympathy by Molly Harper

Sweet Tea and Sympathy
(Southern Eclectic #1)
by Molly Harper

Burb:

Beloved author Molly Harper launches a brand-new contemporary romance series, Southern Eclectic, with this story of a big-city party planner who finds true love in a small Georgia town.

Nestled on the shore of Lake Sackett, Georgia is the McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop. (What, you have a problem with one-stop shopping?) Two McCready brothers started two separate businesses in the same building back in 1928, and now it’s become one big family affair. And true to form in small Southern towns, family business becomes everybody’s business.

Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot’s rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society, and made elegance and glamour her business. She’s riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she’s blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start—and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

As Margot finds her footing in a town where everybody knows not only your name, but what you had for dinner last Saturday night and what you’ll wear to church on Sunday morning, she grudgingly has to admit that there are some things Lake Sackett does better than Chicago—including the dating prospects. Elementary school principal Kyle Archer is a fellow fish-out-of-water who volunteers to show Margot the picture-postcard side of Southern living. The two of them hit it off, but not everybody is happy to see an outsider snapping up one of the town's most eligible gentleman. Will Margot reel in her handsome fish, or will she have to release her latest catch?

Voices on the Road Audiobook Blog Tour & Giveaway

I was thrilled and honored to be part of the Voices on the Road Blog Tour and Giveaway organized by Audiobook Publishers Association!

Whether you're traveling to work, going on a road trip or flying out for the upcoming holidays and/or vacation, audiobooks are perfect for you to take along for the ride! They are the perfect companion for long or short trips. I love them because not only can I multitask but they can bring a book to life!

So many audiobooks, so little time, right? I thought I'd share with you my top 5 Awesome Audiobooks/Narrators for you to take along on your next travels!

Narrator: Nicole Poole

There isn't an audiobook that Nicole has narrated that I haven't loved/liked! However, my favorite are all the Dannika Dark's books!! There are currently three series of which two are complete: The Mageri Series, The Seven Series and The Crossbreed Series. My suggestion is that you start with The Mageri Series.

Nicole has a HUGE range when it comes to voices and tones. She is also great with accents! Nicole has a true gift to evoke emotions when you're listening. When you have a narrator that not only provides each character with their own voices and tones, but you end up forgetting that the full cast is performed by only one person, THAT is the definition of being an awesome narrator. Bonus when they do the guy voice and end up crushing on them because of the male voice (Hello Simon and Christian)!

The Mageri Series

The Seven Series

The Crossbreed Series

Lorelei King (Narrator)

I was first introduced to Lorelei via the Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones. This series is a great mix of comedy, romance, paranormal and suspense. Charley is a private investigator who sees ghosts and happens to be the grim reaper. She also likes margaritas, is sarcastic, has a wicked sense of humor and an affinity for naming inanimate objects (i.e. her Jeep is "Misery"). Oh the adventures Charley goes on! I can't forget about Reyes! Actually, I'm going to let you discover Reyes!!

I love Lorelei's ability to bring each of the characters to life. Whether she's voicing Charlie, her BFF Cookie, Angel Garza who died when he was 12 and helps Charlie out with her investigations,  or Blue Bell, a five year old who can be quite scary, Lorelei becomes each of the characters. Her performance is on point!

Available for purchase at Amazon | Audible

The Charley Davidson Series

Sebastian York (Narrator)
Ahhh the mysterious, sexy voice that is Sebastian York! Listeners LOVE him! Women swoon! I mean there is a freaking meme about his voice.....

Aside from the "sexy" voice, he is able to bring a light heartedness when there are funny moments and he does great kid voices. Adorable!!! One of the things I love about Sebastian is his ability to be a complete Dom Alpha in one book and then a sexy hero in a Romantic Comedy in the next!

Speaking of romantic comedies... you must check out Full Package by Lauren Blakely! Written in the male POV, this story has comedy, romance, sexy scenes and is just PERFECT for a road trip. WARNING, there is a hilarious scene in a home goods store! LOVE IT!!

Available for purchase at Amazon | Audible

Tillie Hooper (Narrator)

What do you get when you have an excellent story and pair it with a fabulous narrator? An AMAZING series that is PERFECT for... whenever!! Enter Kristen Ashley's Fantasyland Series and Tillie Hooper, the narrator! Kristen's stories are filled with big personalities and Tillie DELIVERS!! Below is a audio sample of The Golden Dynasty as it truly showcases Tillie's ability to bring a story to life!

Purchase at Amazon Audible

Jennifer Ikeda (Narrator)

The All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness is a beautifully written story filled with intriguing characters and locations that make you want to book your flight!  A Discovery of Witches is the first book in the series and you will fall in love with both the story and Jennifer's performance! With over the top characters and several different accents, Jennifer nails them all!

Purchase at Amazon | Audible

Okay, okay, I know I'm supposed to share 5 awesome audiobooks/narrators, but I HAVE to share this recent listen!! The author was new to me. I love Zackary Webber and this would be the second listen from Muffy Newtown are the narrators! Check out Mercy by Debra Anastasia. There is so much more to the story and characters than the blurb provides. There is a lot of emotions from both the hero and heroine and both Zackary and Muffy bring those emotions to the forefront.

Zackary can perform one hell of a sexy Alpha Male. Yet, he also brings a vulnerability to the characters that makes you fall for them. Muffy's range is great and her "guy voice" YUM! Pair these two up and the story comes to life!

Purchase at Amazon | Audible

I hope you have added all these fabulous books, authors and narrators to your TO BE READ LIST and enjoy your time listening! I #LoveAudiobooks and will continue to RAVE about them!! If you're interested in learning about more awesome audiobooks and narrators visit the Audiobook Lovin page (on top)! “What?” she cried.

Josiah knew he was taking a big risk in presenting this to her—after all, Melanie had grown up hating Christmas.  Hell, he’d only gotten her to have some good feelings toward the holiday in the last two years!  But he knew if she’d just give him a chance, he’d be able to prove to her how a Christmas wedding would be amazing.

Jumping to his feet, he looked down at her shocked expression and did his best to keep his tone light and encouraging.

“Just…hear me out, okay?”

The look on her face said she would, but she certainly wasn’t happy about it.

“What could be better than getting married during such a festive time of the year?” he began but didn’t give her a chance to reply.  “Think about it—everything, everywhere is already beautifully decorated.  Any place we go won’t require much from us because it will already be decorated!  The Poinsettias, Christmas trees, the lights…all that work will be done for us.”

“Josiah…”

“And everyone will be in town already so there won’t be a need for them to make a separate trip.”

“Who’s everyone?  My dad is already here; he’s the only family I have and your family doesn’t live that far away.  It’s hardly like they’d be making a huge sacrifice to come to town,” she countered.

“But all of our friends will be here too.  You know how most people we know tend to travel either before Christmas or after the new year because they love all the festivities here in town Christmas week.”

Melanie let out a small sigh.  “Look, I get what you’re saying.  I really do.  But…you know my feelings on Christmas.”

He immediately sat back down at her side.  “And we’ve come such a long way, Mel!  When we first met, you hated the holidays and everything about them.  But after that first Christmas here, you changed.  You saw how it all wasn’t so bad and—admit it—you even enjoyed it.”

She gave him a sour look.  “I know that first Christmas was amazing but only because you made it that way for me.  You went out of your way to make up for every single crappy Christmas I’d had since I was five!”

“And what about last year?” he prodded.

Another sigh.  “You proposed last Christmas so of course that’s going to make for a great memory.”

“So you see…”

“But,” she quickly interrupted, “that doesn’t mean I want to get married during the month of December or anywhere near Christmas!”

He silently admitted to himself that he knew there were going to be some challenges in getting Melanie to see his way of thinking, but he was kind of hopeful that she wouldn’t be quite this hostile toward the idea.  How was he supposed to convince her that this could be good for them?  Great, even?  What could he possibly do to show her how wonderful a Christmas wedding could be?
