Never
(The Pennymaker Tales, #4)
By Tara Lain

Blurb:
Wendell “Wen” Darling lives in a world of shoulds and musts. Left to care for his brother and sister by his dull drudge of a father and wacko irresponsible mother, he suppresses his creativity, slaving in an ad agency seventy hours a week, letting his no-talent supervisor take the credit.

Then his bosses blow the campaign for their biggest client and Wen gets a chance to shine—but only if he can find the artist who painted a wild, glorious wall of graffiti in the subway. Hiding behind a pillar at 2:00 a.m., Wen comes face-to-face with the scarlet-haired, elven-faced embodiment of his divergent opposite—Peter Panachek, the flighty, live-for-today painter, singer, and leader of the rock group the Lost Boys. Everything Wen takes seriously, Peter laughs off, but opposites attract, even if their kisses always lead to battles. Peter’s devil-may-care persona hides a world of secrets, self-protection, and hidden fears, until the day a drug dealer, Vadon Hooker, threatens everything Wen holds dear. Guided by the mysterious Mr. Pennymaker, Peter has to choose between facing responsibility or burrowing even deeper into Neverland.

Excerpt

Descending the stairs like a flaming Baryshnikov came a guy as big as a sumo wrestler, wearing tight black jeans and a T-shirt that strained over the vast expanse of his chest and belly. Amazing, yes, but who could see him, because above his head, in a position like some flying ballerina, he held —a guy. What a guy. The boy—he looked to be in his teens, but then so did Wen, so who knew?—stretched out in the air with his legs raised and arms in Superman position. He wore black jeans, just as tight as Sumo Guy’s, and a brilliant green T-shirt that made Wen look at his shock of hair, so red it could have been painted, and his startling, captivating face. This had to be a leprechaun or an elf come to life. His wide eyes turned up at the corners like a cat laughing eternally, and they were so heavily lashed they looked enhanced with guyliner. His nose turned up, his cheekbones stuck out, there might be a cleft in his chin, and his mouth curved in a bow. Nothing on that face should go together—but it came out a frigging masterpiece.

Trouping down behind this Flying Wallenda act came three more guys, all dressed in black and managing to represent the ethnic mix of the entire world in their small group. One guy’s skin was black, and he was so handsome he barely looked real. One of them appeared to be a mix of African and Asian and something Middle-Eastern mysterious. One shorter dude must be a variety of Hispanic. Plus Parasol Girl seemed to be a member of the club.

Sumo Guy carried the elf in a wide circle as the boy flapped his arms. Then Sumo gave him a little toss, which made Wen catch his breath. The elf flew up and landed gracefully in Sumo Guy’s massive arms. He threw back his head, scarlet hair flying, and yelled, “Ta-da!”

Back on his feet, the elf proved to be maybe five foot eight or nine of compact perfection—wide shoulders for his small size, slim hips, and long legs. He bowed low to the applause of his band of merry weirdos and turned in a circle. Wen sucked a small breath. Look at that butt. High, round, and hard—definitely supernatural.

Viviana's Review:

This is a "new to me" author and it includes a narrator that I have yet to listen to so I was excited about the prospect of listening and reviewing. I was intrigued about Sebastian based on the blurb and wondered how things would play out as this trope is one used often in Contemporary Romance.

Sebastian had a lot sweet, cute moments and others where he was trying too hard. Also, it seems like the author was trying to make him a Dom with moments of placing "commands" on Ava but its just wrong timing causing it not to work. It also doesn't help that the dialogue between them comes across awkward.

I really enjoyed the family dynamics and I wish that fun bantering and easy conversation was also used with Ava & Sebastian.

For a man who 'doesn't believe in love', he sure does pursues Ava and makes it clear this isn't just a hookup or just about the sex. Oh and this was within minutes of meeting her. This is a classic case of "Insta Love" or "Lust" to be honest. If this was a relationship that developed more 'naturally' meaning they get to actually know each other vs. again, insta love/lust, it would have made for a much better story.

There are several times that the dialogue between Ava and Sebastian seemed forced or as if they were trying WAY too hard to be "sexy" or "funny". Many times the sexy talk was... was... well, awkward. There are also moments where the dialogue is very juvenile for two individuals who are in their thirties.

Then there were moments where Ava's internal monologue just went on and on and on and on. Similar to her thoughts on "how sexy", "how irresistible", "how mouth watering", you get it, right. I get being into the guy, but we've heard it enough throughout the entire story.

Narrator Review:
So this was the first time I listen to Aiden's narration and I'm wondering why I haven't listened to him before! I really liked his performance! He has a great voice that is a rich baritone and I know now why listeners rave about his performance! His voice range is great which fits perfectly for any genre within the romance umbrella!

Kasha also does a really good job with her performance, providing each character with their own unique tones and voices making it easy for the listeners to tell the characters apart.

Overall, this story had such potential and I'm sadden that it didn't live up to the hype. I will say that I really liked the siblings and their dynamic enough to make me curious about their HEA. With so many books on my TBR though, I'm not sure if I'd give this series another chance, but I may be open to it.

Rating: 2 Stars - It was ok!

Audiobook Review: Decadent Dreams by Nicole Garcia

Decadent Dreams
by Nicole Garcia
Narrated by Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross

Blurb:

Nico

My dreams haunt me. I feel as if I am falling into a pit of impending doom, but even that has not prepared me for the roller-coaster of emotions that flood over me when I'm near Phoenix. I have to keep my distance from her. I need to. It's the only thing I can do to keep from getting hurt again. Staying away from her proves to be a much harder task than I could have ever imagined. She's not only my assistant, but she's half my age. She gets under my skin and irritates the shit out of me, yet one smile, one laugh, and I'm melting into a puddle at her feet. Falling in love with her is a bad idea, a very bad idea, because she just may be the one person who breaks my heart for good this time.

Phoenix

Nico is my boss. He's demanding, bitter, brooding, and a downright bully at times. But, all that doesn't deter me from him at all. I can see the kindness and compassion in his eyes. I know the secret he's keeping from everyone and why he's so guarded with his heart. I don't care about his secret, nor do I care that he's twice my age. What matters is the undeniable attraction we feel for each other. If only he can just let go of the past and see what's right in front of him.

Author's note: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

Available for purchase at

Viviana's Review:
Enjoyable listen over all. It took me a little bit to warm up to Nico at first and Phe came across very mature for her age one minute and then would say or do something that reminded me of a teenage. This was a bit off-putting. There were also moments where the heroine was a bit annoying or when the hero would say or act completely out of 'character' based on what we've been told or seen thus far. I'll be honest that those are the moments that brought this review down a star as well as when the author 'tells' us what the characters are doing (i.e. I got out of bed, I went to the bathroom and washed my face, etc.). I think those stood out more in the audiobook vs. if it was read... maybe.

However, once the story got moving it got better. I totally fell for Gio and I'm looking forward to his story!!

The story is filled with hot and steamy scenes which I'm sure many readers will enjoy! I also enjoyed the interactions with Gio! He provided some humor and provided a different point of view for both Nico and Phe.

Narrators' Review
I really enjoyed both Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross performances. As this was a duet narration both narrators are performing with each other vs. taking turns per chapters. They each provided tones and voices for the characters.

Overall, it was a good story that has potential to be a great story. I'm looking forward to listening more about Gio and what comes next.

Rating: 3 Stars - I liked it.

A virgin alpha hero risks everything for the courtesan who steals his heart.

Pleasure Me
by Monica Burns

Blurb:

Youth and beauty are a courtesan’s greatest assets. At forty-one, Lady Ruth Attwood appears to have lost both, as her latest lover just abandoned her for a younger mistress. Struggling with the knowledge that she’s no longer considered desirable, she’s uncertain whether to be offended or flattered when a younger man makes her an unusual offer. In need of funds, she agrees. But then she does the unthinkable. She falls in love.

Despite his reputation as a man’s man, Baron Garrick Stratfield has never been with a woman. His physical impairment is such that he knows not even a whore will touch him, and he needs a mistress who’s willing to be kept without sharing his bed. But passion is just a delicious kiss away because his new mistress is wreaking havoc with his senses. Worse yet, someone is not only out to ruin his reputation, but frame him for murder.

Excerpt

“Are you sure friendship is the only reason you told me the truth? I’m a courtesan, Garrick. Although I do much more than fulfill a man’s sexual needs, my skills in the bedroom are considered excellent.”
“Instruction?” He choked out the word. Sweet Jesus, the woman was offering to tutor him in the art of lovemaking. How in the hell was he supposed to respond to that?
“If not that, then perhaps someone to confide in?” she said in soothing voice. “There must be a reason why you’ve never been with a woman. I am a good listener, when I wish to be.”
“That topic isn’t up for discussion,” he said through clenched teeth, not even smiling at her ironic comment about listening.
“As you wish.”
The heat of her brushed against him as she walked past to sit down at her dressing table. Stunned by her ready acquiescence, he stared at her as she calmly reached for a jar of cream and proceeded to apply the emollient to her hands. Awkward. It was a sensation he’d never liked, and he was feeling extremely awkward right now. He clasped his hands behind his back then drew in a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself.
“You’re going out this evening?” The question only reflected how ill at ease he was. She stopped rubbing her hands and met his gaze in the dressing table mirror.
“I was, but I’ve changed my mind,” she said quietly.
“I see.” A rush of pleasure surged through him. She hadn’t said so, but he was certain he was the reason she’d changed her plans.
“And you? Do you have plans?” In a casual gesture, she shrugged one shoulder out of her robe to rub cream on her skin. He inhaled a sharp breath as he saw the lush curve of her beautiful breast reflected in the mirror.
“No. . . I. . . I wasn’t sure . . .” He swallowed hard as she finished rubbing cream on her shoulder and pulled her robe back up. His breathing eased for a mere fraction of an instant before she repeated the exercise with her other shoulder. A knot developed in his throat, making him cough.
“Are you all right, Garrick?”
She turned quickly to face him, her robe discreetly closed. The concerned look on her face would have eased his discomfort it he hadn’t seen the flash of something far more dangerous in her eyes.
“I’m. . . fine.”
With a shake of his head, he cleared his throat again. She tilted her head in contemplation. In the quiet glow of the gaslight, the movement emphasized the sweet curve of her shoulder and throat. A sense of impending doom swept over him, but he ignored it, unable to take his eyes off of her.
“Do you trust me, Garrick?” The softly spoken question took him by surprise, and he frowned.
“I would not have confided in you otherwise.”
“There’s nothing shameful about your innocence. In fact, I find it quite. . . arousing.”
She turned to pull a long scarf from one of the dressing table’s drawers. When she stood up to face him again, the gentle determination reflected on her face made him tense. In the next instant, the air in his lungs was dragged out of him in one large whoosh as he watched her slowly untie her robe. Bloody hell, why wasn’t he racing toward the door?
“Desire is a pleasurable thing, Garrick.”
Her voice was hypnotic, and he couldn’t take his eyes off her as she trailed one hand across her throat and then downward. The languid movement parted her wrapper as she leisurely brushed her fingertips along the side of her breast. It was an erotic movement that sent heat blasting through him until his palms were damp.
“Let me show you what it’s like to feel that pleasure.” The thin robe hiding her from him slid to the floor with a whisper, and his mouth went dry at the sight. “Let me show you how wonderful it can be between us.”
Why was he still standing here? He should have been at the door by now. He tried to move but couldn’t. If he didn’t do something fast there was no hope for him. His feet remained rooted to the floor as he watched her undo her hair so it fell down over her shoulders. God, she was beautiful. Her eyes closed, the scarf she still held in her hand drifted across the tips of her breast in a way that seemed natural, yet he knew it was deliberate.
“Do you like looking at me, Garrick?” The throaty whisper scraped across his senses.
“Yes,” he rasped.
The scarf fluttered against her skin like a butterfly touching first one delicate curve and then another. Her hands cupped her breasts, and in a move that made it impossible for him to breathe, she circled her fingers around her rigid nipples. With great difficulty, he suppressed the raging need to stride forward and take her into his arms. Instead he forced himself to take a step back from her. It did little to assuage the hunger assaulting his rigid cock. Almost as if she could sense his need, her eyes flickered open, and she stretched out her hand to offer him the scarf.
“Tie me to the bed.” It was a soft command that made him stare at her in astonishment. A sensual, yet gentle, smile curved her mouth. “I want you to be in control of your pleasure.”

Audiobook Review: The Final Score by Jaci Burton

The Final Score
(Play-by-Play Series, Bk #13)
Jaci Burton
Narrated by Tatiana Sokolov

Blurb:
Nathan Riley is ready to follow in the footsteps of his famous football player father. He's been drafted as quarterback for his dad's former team, and his future is bright. When his friend Mia Cassidy moves to the same city, their years-long friendship suddenly sparks hot, reminding him of the one night they had together in college that he can never forget.

Like Nathan, Mia is from a sports dynasty family and embarking on an incredible new career - as founder of her own sports management company. Her friendship with Nathan means everything to her, and tossing sex into the mix again could jeopardize it. But the chemistry between them has always sizzled, and it isn't long before Mia realizes she wants more with Nathan than just late-night talks and pizza.

Passion has a funny way of changing the rules, and soon Nathan and Mia discover that to win it all, they'll have to make an unexpected play for love.

Available for purchase at

Viviana's Review:
I liked it. I had higher hopes for it, especially with the Cassidy family being included. I LOVE the Cassidy family! Each of  their stories have been really good! I did love that both the hero and heroine are from Football Dynasty! This is also part of the story.... how both Nathan and Mia are trying to make it on their own, and not have others think they are riding on their father's fame.

This is a friends to lovers story and we get to see them as friends, which is great. They have a very easy going relationship and its obvious they treasure each other as friends.

I did love that we get to see what the Cassidy boys and their ladies have been up to. Reconnecting with them is like meeting up with friends after not seeing each other for a while!

Why I didn't Love it? I think this could have easily been a novella. There is a lot of repetition both in internal monologue and conversations among friends, but mostly internal monologue. I mean how many times can you state your reasons why you can't or why they shouldn't!! Jeez. It caused several eye rolling moments.  If you remove all of these, you'd have a really good novella/story.

Then there is the matter of the 'struggle' or the 'cause' between the couple and its something that will make you say "Really? Seriously?" and then the make up... too easy and way to quick.

Narrators:
Tatiana Sokolov does a good job with this series. I still believe that the series would benefit from having a male narrator, as part of the narration (two narrators (duet or dual)).

Overall, this was a good read and with likable characters and steamy scenes. I'm hoping we get to see Mia and Nathan later in the series to catch up with them.

Rating: 3.Stars - I LIKED IT!

GONE TO DUST by Liliana Hart
Narrated by
Jonathan Todd Ross & Devra Woodward

The Gravediggers aren't exactly what they seem. They're the most elite of the world's fighting forces - and all they have in common is that they've been betrayed by the countries they've died for. Because they are dead. To their countries, their militaries, and their families.
Sometimes the dead do rise....

Miller Darling is one of the most popular romance novelists of her time. Not bad for a woman who doesn't believe in romance. She's as logical as they come, and she doesn't believe in happily ever afters. What she does believe in is family, so when her brother disappears, she doesn't think twice about packing her bag and her laptop and heading out to find him.

Elias Cole lived and breathed the life of a Navy SEAL. Now he's "dead" and his hero's honor tarnished. The only thing keeping him sane are the men who are like him - The Gravediggers - and the woman who makes his head spin. He's never met anyone like Miller Darling. Her smart mouth and quick wit keep him on his toes, and damned if he doesn't find that appealing.

When Miller receives a package from the brother who abandoned her asking for help, it's clear she's in over her head with the mess he's gotten himself into. She needs a professional, and Elias is just the man for the job. Only her brother is a former SEAL - the man who left his team to die - and Elias is more interested in vengeance than saving his life.

A SEAL'S OATH by Cora Seton
Narrated by
Eric G. Dove

Navy SEAL Boone Rudman and his friends want to create a sustainable community that can be replicated anywhere in the world. But they need land, so when Martin Fulsom, leader of the Fulsom Foundation, offers them Westfield, a ranch in Montana, they agree to Fulsom's condition that they document their progress on a reality television show.

Building the community will be hard enough, but Boone's got another problem. Fulsom expects families to make up the population of the new town. Now Boone's got to find a wife fast, before he loses his funding and his dream. So when he arrives at Westfield to find it already occupied by the startlingly beautiful, strangely attired Riley Eaton, he wonders if fate itself has provided him with an answer.

Riley Eaton is done with traffic jams and 24/7 workweeks. She loves Jane Austen's novels, and she knows she's not the only woman longing for a simpler, more beautiful life. When she discovers her friends are in the same frame of mind, she throws caution to the wind and invites them to Westfield, the ranch her uncle inherited long ago but has never lived in. Equipped with a key and a standing invitation to stay there whenever she likes, she gathers her friends, drives to Chance Creek, and gives up all things 21st century in order to open a Jane Austen-style bed-and-breakfast. She knows her absentee uncle will be thrilled with a new stream of income, and Westfield is perfect for Regency living, with its wide lawns, extensive gardens, and large ballroom. But when sexy, stubborn Boone shows up with plans to build a hyper-modern sustainable community on the ranch, it's clear her Regency paradise is over before it even began.

Now Boone has 30 days to marry Riley or lose the ranch to developers, and Riley has three weeks to prepare for the bed-and-breakfast's first guests or face bankruptcy. Can they overcome their prejudices to help each other? Or will their pride destroy both their futures?

Viviana's Review:
This was my first book by Cristin Harber and I enjoyed it! LIVE WIRE is a novella that involves characters from previous books in the TITAN Series and I'll admit that I was a tad bit concerned that I'd be lost, however, that wasn't the case. The author does a good job of providing the background details (i.e. who is who to whom, role in the TITANS, etc.) so if you happen to pick this up before reading the previous books in the series, you'll be fine.

LIVE WIRE has interesting characters that readers will enjoy. The story also has action that keeps the plot moving forward and at a good pace. I also really liked that the women in the story are strong and independent. Bonus that the men know their women are strong and independent and do not try overpower them. Don't get me wrong, they were Alpha men but they knew didn't waste time trying to dominate the women. On the contrary, they were supportive.

Narrator Review:
I've had Jeffrey on my "Narrator I want to listen to" for a while and I'm glad I had this opportunity! He does a great job of providing each characters with their own unique voices and tones. He also does an awesome job with the female voices. Definitely will be looking at other books narrated by Jeffrey to my list of TBR pile!

Overall, this was a quick, sexy read with funny moments. Readers will enjoy the story line and listeners will also enjoy the narrator's performance!

Rating: 3.5 Stars - I Really Liked It!
