Re-release Book Blast: Candy Houses by J.C. Daniels

Candy Houses
(Grimm's Circle #1)
by J.C. Daniels

Blurb:

Think you know fairy tales? Guess again.

It’s been hundreds of years since Greta’s so-called story came to an end and it didn’t end with a happily ever after then. Why should she expect it to be any different now?

She’s a Grimm—a special kind of guardian angel and official ass-kicker in the paranormal world. Between trying to stay alive, training new Grimm and dealing with demons, romance is hard to come by. Then there’s the fact that there’s only been one man ever who really made her heart race.

And he’s been out of her life for a long, long time…

But now he’s back and just in time.

Greta needs Rip’s help.

There’s an unexpected threat to their world, a betrayal none of them saw coming.

Working together is the last thing they want, but it just might be their only chance.

A fairy tale best suited for grown-ups…don’t say you weren’t warned.

Audio Book Review: Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton & Nina Bocci

Roman Crazy
By Alice Clayton & Nina Bocci
Narrated by: Randi Geddens

Blurb:
A delicious, sexy, laugh-out-loud modern romance about a newly single woman and her journey to find love again, from New York Times best-selling author Alice Clayton and debut author Nina Bocci.

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She's left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer licking her wounds - and perhaps a gelato or two - with her best friend, Daisy. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery's thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she'd see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man - the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and - hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello.

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It's heady, it's fevered, it's wanton, and it's crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

Viviana's Review:
I had this book on my TBR mountain and upon listening to the audio clip on SoundCloud I immediately bumped it up to #1 and reached out to one of the authors, Nina. Within that one clip, I LMAO, had that "Oh Fudge.... he didn't" and that awesome moment of "OMG, good for her!"

The beginning of the blurb nails it "delicious, sexy, laugh-out-loud modern romance". ROMAN CRAZY was a great mix of humor, romance and steaminess! It was also a perfect blend of story telling and description of a scene. Both authors did a phenomenal job of describing things (i.e. from the desserts to the locations) that I literally wanted to jump on a plane right then and there and check out the city and towns and/or look up the recipes of the desserts and food that was mentioned! Not once did it feel like over kill. You were discovering things right along with Avery! It was awesome!

This is where you pause a moment and SIGH... Marcello.... insert smile and sigh again! LOL! He is one YUMMY man that will make you wish a time machine existed so Avery can go back in time and not make the same choices! Then again, we are now who we are because of our past experiences and both Marcello and Avery seem to fit in the now just as well if not better than in the past.

The ENTIRE time I'm listening I'm trying to figure out what would be the cause that creates the struggle/obstacle between Avery and Marcello. Seriously, when I thought I had it figured out, that wasn't it! When it does finally happen though... I LOVED how everything turned out! It was perfect! I won't spoil it but it was a breath of fresh air!

Narrator's Review:
Randi Geddens did a great job with not only the characters but also the pronunciations! She jumped effortlessly between being the character that didn't know any Italian and mispronouncing and/or learning words to being the characters that have lived in the country for years as well as those who speak the language fluently! On top of it all, she gives each characters their own unique tones and voices!

Overall, this was a great read and one that will make you want to know when the following book is scheduled for release!

Audio Book Review: Hounded by Kevin Hearne

Hounded
(The Iron Druid Chronicles, Bk #1)
By Kevin Hearne
Narrated by Luke Daniels

Blurb:

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power - plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish - to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Viviana's Review:
OMG! This was awesome. A smart and fast paced read! I didn't want to put it down! Author Kevin Hearne is a phenomenal story teller! As if the story couldn't get better, the awesome Luke Daniels is the narrator. He brings the characters to life and adds volumes to an already great story!!

A great mixture of folk lore and history. There is lots of action and the characters and story keep you intrigued and wanting more!

Atticus is not only street smart but also book smart. He's sarcastic and witty! There are moments in the story where I busted out laughing. Others I was waiting to see how he would survive!

If you haven't read this, I highly recommend it. ESPECIALLY in audio book if you enjoy/like/love them!  Its an easy read and one that I'm loving!!

Narrator's Review:
Luke rocks it! As I mentioned, he brings the characters to life. His performance is smooth and seems effortless. Almost as if he was just telling you things that have occurred to him vs. the fact that he's reading a book! Luke has a great range and gives each character their own unique voice and tone.

Audio Book Review: Easy Kisses by Kristen Proby

Easy Kisses
(The Boudreaux, Bk # 4)
by Kristen Proby
Narrated by Sebastian York & Rachel Fulginiti

Blurb:
The Boudreaux Series. Sexy. Intriguing. Easy.
Simon Danbury, an internationally sought-after motivational speaker, helps women from all walks of life with love, self-esteem, dating, and career building skills. Handsome, witty, and wealthy, Simon seemingly has everything a man could want. But appearances can be deceiving. While Simon may have the answers for millions of women all over the world, when it comes to his own love life, he's a giant, sexy mess. Divorced, and convinced that he'll never love again, the very last thing he expects is one Charly Boudreaux.

Charly doesn't want to be at this seminar in the middle of nowhere, but her sister made her go. She's the one who has her life together. Great career, amazing family, nice home, and loyal friends. So what if she doesn't have a man? She doesn't need one. If she's learned anything in her almost 30 years, it's that men are more trouble than they're worth. And they have a nasty habit of breaking your heart into a million tiny pieces. So she'll sit through all of Simon's touchy feely crap and go home and get on with her life. Except Simon isn't really spouting crap, and when he smiles at her, the butterflies are ridiculous.

Never mixing business with pleasure, Simon finds Charly, a bright spot in a universe that's been dark for too long. But will he be able to resist her? And why would he want to?

Viviana's Review:
I have been anticipating this release for a while. Charly is smart and independent and I wanted to see how her story would evolve. At the end of book two we get a brief yet an idea of what's to come with an excerpt of this upcoming book. I wanted to see what Charly would learn and take away from such a seminar. I was also intrigued that her love interest would be the owner and facilitator of the seminar. Usually, this is a big no no. This leads to lots of tension between Charly and Simon! They have great chemistry and it shows through the page.

Simon was intriguing. Here is this man who has created his business to empower woman. For woman to learn what their self worth is and have them acknowledge it. I enjoyed the message and even some of the topics discussed in the seminar. He seemed like a great guy overall. I wondered what would occur to create that moment when the couple struggles. There was a bit of a twist in who created the struggle but unfortunately, it was the same old, same old trope. I did role my eyes a bit as this had also been done in a previous book in this series.

As the title says "Easy" this is an easy read. There is conflict of course and a lot that you can see it coming a mile away, yet wonder how the characters do not. Or something that could have easily been fixed by talking. Its a trope. We must deal. There were some parts that were slow/dragged a little, but again, this is an easy and quick read. I do think the ending was fitting but we get the epilogue and there is a LOT of information that is crammed into a small amount of pages. This makes it feel rushed.

Narrators Review: I read this series via audio book! HELLO Sebastian York! Need I say more? LOL. SO imagine my surprise while listening to that snippet I hear a British accent and NOT Sebastian York. Shocked! However, I thought the voice reading the snippet did a great job with the accent. Now flash forward and I'm seeing Sebastian York's name and woohoo its him narrating... but where is the British accent? Oh hell bells! He's not preforming with the delicious British accent. BUMMER! The thing is that Sebastian does use the accent but its more not than yes and when it is utilized its barely distinguishable. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised as I don't hear him do the accent of the other characters who are from NOLA....

As for Rachel Fulginiti, she has narrated all the previous books (like Sebastian as well), however, there was something always off and it comes through more and its more obvious in this book than in the other. Rachel does or tries to do the NOLA accent but there is something off about it. Its the mix of the tone she's trying to use for the characters as well as trying to include an accent. Regarding tones.... Rachel's performance comes across almost like a pouty teenager trying to be sexy at the same time. Yikes, I know, but its hard to describe it specifically. I enjoy her normal speaking voice and tone, there has been something off for me with these series....

Over all, if you've read the series I'm sure you'll want to continue with it as this is a good story. From an audio book, I wish the narrators were more consistent (i.e. Rachel does accents, Sebastian does not) within the same book. If you haven't read the previous books, you can start with EASY KISSES as it reads as a standalone.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Suddenly Yours by Jacob Z. Flores

Hi everyone! I'm pleased to have author Jacob Z. Flores with us today! He had the chance to interview Cody from SUDDENLY YOURS!!

Hi, everyone! I’m Jacob Z. Flores, and I’m thrilled to be here promoting my October 15 release release Suddenly Yours, the second book in my One Fine Day series.

In case you didn’t know, the books are all connected through the theme of marriage. The characters in each book will be different and so will their situations. This allows readers to pick up the series at any point (even book 2) without feeling as if they have missed out on something covered in the first book.

Today, I thought it might be fun to provide readers with a glimpse into the book by sitting down with one of the main characters from Suddenly Yours and interviewing him.

First up on my interviewing couch is Cody Hayes, who lives in Austin, Texas. Cody is a part time waiter and a struggling author.

Cody, thanks for sitting down and chatting with me today.

CODY: Hey, man. Not a problem at all. I love kicking back and shooting the shit. My buds and I do it all the time, except there’s usually alcohol involved. (looks around) Where is the alcohol?

I’m afraid I’m out. My muse drank it all while we were trying to finish my last book. He ate all the cookies too.

CODY: What? No cookies either? (groans) Stupid muse.

He can be extremely irritating at times, but from what I’ve heard so can your college friends.

CODY: (snorting) Ain’t that the truth. Don’t get me wrong: they’re my boys, and I love them. But damn, if sometimes they don’t make me want to beat them until their dead. They love irritating me more than they love hitting on cocktail waitresses.

Wow. For straight boys, that’s saying a lot, so how exactly do they irritate you?

CODY: It would be easier to answer how they don’t irritate me.

Maybe. But that wouldn’t be as fun of an answer, would it?

CODY: (grinning) Can’t argue with that. (taps in index finger to his chin in thought) Well, for starters, they’re always double dog daring me to do something stupid like shaving off my eyebrows, streaking down the street, or hitting on random guys.

Why do I get the feeling that you would hit on random guys anyway?

CODY: (laughing) #truth!

So if your friends’ dares irritate you, why do you do it? You do realize you don’t have to, right?

CODY: Duh! Of course I know that, but they’re my boys, no matter how much they get under my skin like a botfly. We do stupid shit together all the time. Besides, I know they’re just really trying to help.

How so?

CODY: Aw, man. You’re gonna make me get serious, aren’t you?

Afraid so. Spill.

CODY: (sighing) Fine. You see, all my friends are married or at least almost married. My best friend Sam is engaged. In fact, we’re going to his wedding in Vegas in a few days. Anyway, they’re all happy in their committed relationships and worry that I’m all alone, even though I’m more than okay with it.

So, they want to see you in a happy, serious relationship just like them?

CODY: Please. They want me to find the “one” and get married, as if marriage is the be all and end all. It really makes me wonder about their testosterone levels sometimes.

I take it you’re not a big fan of marriage.

CODY: Hey, I’m all for marriage. I just don’t do love, and you can’t have one without the other.

Interesting. Why don’t you believe in love?

CODY: My mother’s been married a lot, and I mean a lot, like Elizabeth Taylor a lot. I’ve seen her fall in love, get married, and then be completely eviscerated when the love ultimately turned sour and the marriage failed. That’s no way to live.

I won’t argue with that, but every marriage doesn’t end and love doesn’t always turn sour.

CODY: Have you seen the divorce rate in this country?

Yes, but that still doesn’t mean every loving relationship goes bad.

CODY: In my experience, it does.

So you have been in love?

CODY: (crosses his arms over his chest and looks away)

I assume it didn’t end well.

CODY: You assume correctly, and that’s all I’ll say about it.

Fair enough. So do you think, somewhere in the future, you might be open to the idea of falling in love again?

CODY: (shaking his head) Love’s not for me, man. I’ve accepted it. Hell, embraced it even. Why ride only one stallion for the rest of my life when I can saddle up the whole herd?

You don’t think that will get boring?

CODY: Are you kidding me? How could having hot sex with hot guys ever get boring?

I can’t argue with that, but let me ask you one final question.

CODY: Okay. Shoot.

What are you going to do if one of these random guys you have sex with turns out to be the “one”?

CODY: (shrugs) I usually don’t stick around long enough to find out.

But let’s say you did. For some reason, the two of you get to talking or have dinner, and you realize that there’s something more between the two of you than just sex. What then?

CODY: That’s another question. You said your last one was your last question.

I lied.

CODY: Do you want an honest answer?

Always.

CODY: I’d walk away and never look back.

Really?

CODY: Really. I’ve seen the pain love can cause. No one is worth it.

Well, you never know. You are going to Vegas in a few days for your best friend’s wedding, and you know what they say about Vegas, don’t you?

CODY: (rubbing his hands together) Oh yeah. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

They also say, “In Vegas, anything goes.” Thanks again for sitting down and chatting with me, Cody, but that’s all the time we have for today. I wish you nothing but luck and happiness in your future, and who knows? Maybe you’ll find someone in Vegas you’ll be willing to go all-in for.

Thank you Jacob & Cody for this awesome interview!! Okay Loves, Learn more about Cody and SUDDENLY YOURS below and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Suddenly Yours
by Jacob Z. Flores

Blurb:
"What Happens in Vegas Doesn't Always Stay in Vegas"

Cody Hayes is having one epic morning-after. The hangover following a Vegas bachelor party is nothing new to him, and neither is the naked man in his bed.

His apparent marriage is a different story.

Carefully plotting every detail of his life carried Julian Canales to a senate seat as an openly gay man. A drunken night of Truth or Dare isn’t like him… and neither is marrying a man he just met. He’d get an annulment, but the media has gotten wind of his hasty nuptials. If Julian’s political career is going to survive, he has to stay married to a man who’s his opposite in every way.

Now he must convince Cody that all they need to do is survive a conservative political rival, a heartbroken ex, their painful pasts… and an attraction neither man can fight.

Excerpt

Cody let out a long breath and peeked into the bathroom, where Linda Blair had finally stopped spewing pea soup. Thank God. “How are you feeling, sweet cheeks?”

“Don’t call me that.”

Had Julian been this much of a party pooper last night? Cody recalled a frosty reception when he had first introduced himself. While most other men would have turned around and left, Cody hadn’t. Julian’s aloofness presented a challenge, and Cody never ran from a challenge. It had excited him—like the first time he went scuba diving. He was nervous but couldn’t wait to jump in feet first.

That was exactly what he’d done. No, that was exactly what they’d both done. Julian clearly hadn’t remembered that yet.

Cody leaned against the door and grinned. “Do you prefer honey bunny, or do you like to keep it simple? Something like babe or love?”

Julian works just fine,” he said into the bowl before another wave of gross left his body.

This was the worst honeymoon ever!

Since his groom wasn’t interested in playful morning banter, Cody took it upon himself to survey the body the state of Nevada had recently declared all his. No wonder he put a ring on it. Julian was smoking hot, even with his face shoved inside the porcelain god.

His short dark hair, which stood up at rakish angles, complemented his naturally dark flesh, and boy did Cody love him some dark-skinned men. He pursued them like it was his job or something. Julian also had a lean, muscular chest, nicely developed arms, and a cute, tight butt.

Score, score, and double-oh-my-God-I-could-eat-that-all-night score.

If Cody weren’t so nauseous, he’d be doing his Go, Cody dance, which was basically the cabbage patch with a few high kicks thrown in for good measure.

Still, no matter how awesomely yummy Julian’s body was, why did Cody even walk down that aisle in the first place?

Julian took his head out of the toilet, staring up at him with his big, dark chocolate brown eyes, and flashed him a smile that turned Cody’s legs into Silly Putty.

Oh yeah. That might’ve had something to do with it.
