Shades of Treason (Anomaly, #1) by Sandy Williams

Shades of Treason (Anomaly #1)Ash would have given her life to save her teammates.
Instead, they gave their lives to save hers.

Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn is an anomaly, a person whose genetic makeup makes her stronger and smarter than the average human. She’s pledged her life to protect the Coalition, an alliance of thirteen planetary systems, but when a top secret operation turns bloody, she’s charged with treason and the brutal executions of her teammates.

The Coalition needs the information Ash’s team stole on their last mission, so they send in Commander Rhys “Rest in Peace” Rykus to get it. He’s the man who’s responsible for turning Ash into an elite soldier… and he’s a man who isn’t, never was, and never will be in love with the woman he trained. Or so he tells himself.

Ash wants nothing more than to clear her name and be the woman her former instructor wants her to be, but the enemy who killed her teammates did more than frame her for treason and murder: they telepathically silenced her mind, preventing her from saying anything that might point to the truth about what happened.

Now Ash is trapped and set to be executed, the truth dying with her. Unless she can prove her innocence. But taking that path could destroy the Coalition she’s sworn to preserve and protect.

His passion is a curse.

Warrick never intended to put Darcy in harm’s way. But ever since she revealed a shocking truth, Darcy has been hunted by the Dark Fae, who want to use her powers for their own evil purposes. Now it’s up to Warrick to do whatever it takes to keep the woman who sets his soul on fire safe. But protecting Darcy means putting himself—and his entire race—in jeopardy. Is his desperate longing for one woman worth the risk of losing everything… for eternity?

The Hollow Queen (Symphony of Ages, #8) by Elizabeth Haydon

The Hollow QueenAcclaimed author Elizabeth Haydon returns with a heartbreaking tale of love and valor in The Hollow Queen, the eighth installment of her USA Today bestselling Symphony of Ages series that began with Rhapsody.

Beset on all sides by the forces of the merchant emperor Talquist, the Cymrian Alliance finds itself in desperate straits. Rhapsody herself has joined the battle, wielding the Daystar Clarion, leaving her True Name in hiding with her infant son. Ashe tries to enlist the aid of the Sea Mages. Within their Citadel of Scholarship lies the White Ivory tower, a spire that could hold the key to unraveling the full extent of Talquist’s machinations. Achmed journeys to the reportedly unassailable palace of Jierna Tal, to kill emperor Talquist—all the while knowing that even if he succeeds, it may not be enough to stop the momentum of the war.

As they struggle to untangle the web of Talquist’s treachery, the leaders of the Cymrian alliance are met with obstacles at every turn. Rhapsody soon realizes that the end of this war will come at an unimaginable price: the lives of those she holds dearest.

Meg is assigned to work with special agent Matt Bosworth, a hard-nosed pro in the FBI's unit of paranormal investigators—the Krewe of Hunters. They trace the route Meg and Lara took more than once in the past, visiting battlefields and graveyards from Harpers Ferry to Gettysburg. Places where the dead share their secrets with those who can hear… As Meg and Matt pursue the possibility of a serial killer, they find themselves in the middle of a political conspiracy. Is there a connection? And who—besides each other—can they trust?

The Undying Legion (Crown & Key, #2) by Clay Griffith

The Undying Legion (Crown & Key, #2)A thrilling new Victorian-era urban fantasy for fans of Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles, the Showtime series Penny Dreadful, and the Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey, Jr.
With a flood of dark magic about to engulf Victorian London, can a handful of heroes vanquish a legion of the undead?
When monster-hunter Malcolm MacFarlane comes across the gruesome aftermath of a ritual murder in a London church, he enlists the help of magician-scribe Simon Archer and alchemist extraordinaire Kate Anstruther. Studying the macabre scene, they struggle to understand obscure clues in the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics carved into the victim’s heart—as well as bizarre mystical allusions to the romantic poetry of William Blake. One thing is clear: Some very potent black magic is at work.
But this human sacrifice is only the first in a series of ritualized slayings. Desperate to save lives while there is still time, Simon, Kate, and Malcolm—along with gadget geek Penny Carter and Charlotte, an adolescent werewolf—track down a necromancer who is reanimating the deceased. As the team battles an unrelenting army of undead, a powerful Egyptian mummy, and serpentine demons, the necromancer proves an elusive quarry. And when the true purpose of the ritual is revealed, the gifted allies must confront a destructive force that is positively apocalyptic.

The Werewolf Meets His Match (Nocturne Falls, #2) by Kristen Painter

The Werewolf Meets His Match (Nocturne Falls, #2)Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.
Getting arrested wasn’t on werewolf Ivy Kincaid’s agenda when she arrived in Nocturne Falls, but her life rarely goes according to plan. The upside of spending the night in the local lock-up is finding a hotel room is no longer a worry...but the downside is the man she’s come to marry will get his first impression of her behind bars. Not exactly the way Ivy was hoping to meet her pack's sworn enemy...aka her fiancĂ©.

Sheriff (and werewolf) Hank Merrow is the alpha's heir. Everything he's ever done, from becoming an Army Ranger to serving in law enforcement, has been in preparation for the day he’ll take over. Getting married to cement a shaky truce is no different. Hank will do his duty, even if it means shackling himself to a woman he has no intention of liking, let alone loving.
But Ivy is nothing like Hank expected. As feisty as she is beautiful, she's as determined as he is to make a go of marriage for the sake of peace between their packs. The trouble is, Ivy has secrets that could destroy everything Hank holds dear...including his newfound love for her.

Audio Book Lovin' Presents: Interview with Kristen Ashley & Giveaway

Kelly, from Books-n-Kisses and I would like to welcome Author Kristen Ashley to our Audio Book Lovin series!  I've read Kristen's "The Unfinished Heroes Series" and loved it! I'm currently listening to "Knight" now to as a re-read.

Kelly and I are so excited to have you be part of our Audio Book Lovin’ Series.

And I’m excited to be here! Thank you!!!

Throughout the Audio Book Lovin’ series, we’ve learned that some authors have been heavily involved in the process of their books becoming audiobooks and others have had little to no involvement at all. Tell us what your level of involvement has been thus far and if you prefer it that way or would like to be more involved?

First, I have to admit that until I was approached to buy the audio rights to my books, although knowing that there were audiobooks and many listened to them religiously, I had never heard an audiobook. So outside of listening to samples of narrators and choosing them (with some trepidation since I didn't know what I was looking for), with my ignorance of this format, that’s all I could really offer to the process.

Lucky me, this was for my ROCK CHICK series and I selected Susannah Jones, who has been extremely popular with narrating my flagship series. I've listened to her doing the ROCK CHICKS and I know why. She’s the bomb.

However, outside of teaming with Audible to market my books and being there for narrators as they prepare to narrate in order to answer any questions they have, this is still the level of my involvement. Though, selecting the right narrator is crucial for me considering I write mostly in first person, stream of consciousness so assisting my reader into getting into the head of the heroine is a very big thing for me. Finding a narrator to embody her voice (as it were) is obviously vital. I just recently had the opportunity to spend some time with my audiobook For You and heard Liz Thompson’s narration of my heroine, February Owens. Honest to goodness, tears came to my eyes. She was PERFECT!

The selection of narrators is very nerve-wracking but so worth it when your books come to life in that way and they work so beautifully.

Do you listen to your audiobooks after they are finished?  Why or why not.

I've listened to some of some and only because I don’t have the time. If I had more time, I’d have listened to them all (maybe repeatedly!). If I’m on a plane or have other big blocks of time (this is VERY rare) I go to one of my audiobooks. But I’m a music lover so when I work out or take a walk, I do it to music. But I’m just a busy gal so time to kick back and just lose myself in a book, either audio, digital or print, is sadly rare.

Kristen, what do you love/like about audio books?

The full up give-yourself-up-edness (yes, I created that word, roll with me) of it. You don’t have to concentrate on anything. You don’t have to hold anything. You don’t have to do anything but close your eyes and be swept away. Considering my answer to the previous question, that I’m a very busy girl, this doesn't happen often. So to just relax and be carried into a different world, hover there while you’re told stories…well, there’s not a lot that’s better than that!

As a reader/listener, what do you prefer or look for in a narrator? (i.e. do you prefer a male narrator or a female narrator? Do you want them to entertain you with different voices and perform or just read to you?)

In a perfect world, all my characters would have narrators who played parts. But that would be like producing a movie! So obviously, that can’t happen. But with my books, seeing as they’re usually from the heroine’s POV, I like female (though, with GOLDEN TRAIL, the POV was the hero so we had a male narrator). And sometimes the “performance” of voices takes me out of the listening if they aren't as I personally envisioned the character I created. Sometimes, however, it does work. But I’d prefer a charismatic reading…unless the narrator is particularly talented.

As a writer, you have different formats that readers will be able choose from (i.e. ebooks and traditional print), what is it about audiobooks that you like having your written words now being spoken?

As a writer, there are two big things that are major life goals. One, writing, expressing, telling your story, crafting it, giving in to your voice, giving a voice to your characters, (and for me), guiding them (or following them) them an HEA, and doing all this to the very best of your ability. That’s A-#1.

A-#2 is the honor of people choosing to spend their time reading it. So in order to do that, you have to provide it in as many formats as you can so they can have that opportunity. Finally getting my books in audiobook was a huge deal for me because it exposed my work—my beloved babies—to a new audience. And that, for a writer, is gold!

If you could pick one person (male or female) to narrator your life who would it be and why?

Oh my. I don’t know! I’d wish it could be someone with a sexy, sultry voice like Kathleen Turner. But it would probably be more honest to have someone with a funny girl voice like Jennifer Anniston. Because I’m a clown. And I’m a strong woman, but I’m still intent on being a girl until the day I die!

For anyone who has not listened to an audiobook before.  What would you tell them to try to convince them to listen?

I’d share my answer about what I love about them. The give-yourself-up-edness of it. The pure relaxation of being swept away in a story. As adults, we don’t have storytime anymore, anyone to read us to a content, stress-free state.

Unless we “read” audiobooks.

Thank you so much for being part of our Audio Book Lovin’ Series!

And thank you right back for having me! Big hugs! xxoo

About The Author

Kristen Ashley:
I was born a middle class white child in Gary, Indiana, USA. One of the last of a dying breed. I nearly killed my mother and myself making it into the world, seeing as I had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck (already attempting to accessorize and I hadn’t taken my first breath!). Mom says they took me away, put her back in her room, she looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). She remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

All I’ve ever wanted to do was write (well, and be the Queen of the World, but you gotta start small) and I’ve published a gazillion books and counting (and a gazillion is a lot! shoo!).You can learn about my titles that have been released or that are soon to be released in the Titles section of the website.

Even though I jump genres, there is always a theme to my books…humor (hopefully), engaging characters (again, hopefully) and romance (definitely).

My loves are movies, music, food and fashion and I partake of all of them as often as I can (the middle two more than the others, the former, which takes time I don’t often have and the latter, which takes money I rarely have). In fact, I love food so much, I like to share my good fortune so I put my recipes on offer for you on this page (see top menu and don’t miss them, they’re awesome!).

I grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and have lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus I’m blessed to have friends and family around the globe. My family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write and growing up it was large and multi-generational. We all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. I grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as I keep growing up, it keeps getting better.
So here I am, thank goodness.

Audio Book Lovin' Presents: Joanna Wylde and Giveaway

Kelly, from Books-n-Kisses and I would like to welcome Author Joanna Wylde to our Audio Book Lovin series!

Thanks so much for inviting me to participate in the Audio Book Lovin’ June event! I was trying to think about something interesting to share here, and came up blank. (What can I say – my life isn’t very interesting, LOL) Then I remembered that my readers are much smarter than me (true story) so I asked some of them to share their questions about the audio books. I figured if they wanted to hear the answers, your readers might, too. Here’s what they asked:

Susan: I LOVE audio books!!! I've always wondered, as the writer, how much say do you get in who reads/performs it?

Joanna: It really depends on who produces the books. For Reaper’s Property, I had no say at all. With the next three books, I was given a chance to review the covers to make sure they weren’t offensive to MC readers, but never had a vote on the narrators. My latest book, Silver Bastard, was done directly through Penguin. This was an amazing experience, because  the producer, Janet Stark, contacted me directly to ask about the characters and get a feel for who they were. Then she sent me a series of links to narrators she thought might be good. She was incredibly responsive to my opinions and I loved it. I selected the Silver Bastard narrators with her guidance.

Nicole: Did you ever get uncomfortable when writing a sexual scene?

Joanna: Not unless I think about people reading it. Then I get really embarrassed and inhibited… I play a little mental game with myself, where I pretend that nobody is ever going to read my work. That makes it easier to just write what comes out, regardless of how twisted it may be. Thinking about people listening is the kiss of death for me when it comes to writing about sex!

Lisa: Have you ever been in the car, listening to an audio book, and get so caught up you drive by where you're going?

Joanna: Yes. My husband and I both like the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, and they have great narration. I missed my turn off to Auburn once on a road trip across Washington state. (Sooo worth it)

Melissa: Do you have any specifications/tips about the story for the narrators to make their reading flow better?

Joanna: Janet asked me about the pronunciation of several words and locations for Silver Bastard, but beyond that I’m definitely out of my depth with the audio. In many ways, the audio book of a novel is a completely different art form, I think. It’s a performance, and I don’t even like to speak in public. I can’t imagine I’d have anything to offer the narrators ;)

Jennifer: Did hearing the emotion and passion in the story change how you felt about certain characters?

Joanna: I always feel guilty admitting this, but I can’t listen to my own books on audio. It’s just too strange for me… I adore other people’s audio books but for some reason hearing my words out loud makes me uncomfortable. I think maybe it’s facing the reality that what started out at private thoughts and musings are so incredibly public. With a written book, you can sort of pretend that nobody is really seeing how weird your brain is, but when you hear it out loud, you can’t pretend. I much prefer listening to the narrators on other peoples’ books, LOL.

Thanks again for having me :)

Thank you again Joanna for being part of the series and for coming up with a great post that included your readers!!  Check out the audio clip below and remember to enter the giveaways as well!

Audio Book Lovin' Presents: Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick Guest Post & Giveaway

Kelly, from Books-n-Kisses and I would like to welcome Authors Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick to our Audio Book Lovin series!  I've read and listened to their HITMAN Series narrated by Iggy Toma and it's a great series. Kelly and I asked Jessica and Jen to give us their thoughts on audiobooks and they started chatting with each other via email.
 Below is their conversation!

When Jen and I heard that the Hitman books were going to be signed for audio, we were ecstatic! We’re both big fans of audio. My house is actually a pretty audio-heavy household. My husband loves to ‘read’ but he insists on all of his books being audio! Some of my favorite books are made that much more fabulous by a great narrator.

I love audiobooks. They are a great way to help pass the time on the commute or while cooking dinner or doing chores around the house.

The narrator is really important. From my own experience, a good narrator can elevate an average book but crater a really good book. A historical author I love has a narrator whose voice is too dry for me and I've never been able to get into the audio versions of books that I adore.

Unfortunately we weren't really involved with selecting who would narrate the book. That’s the situation, sometimes. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that whoever is picked has the right ‘voice’ for things.

I know that for my billionaire books, I was sent several ‘auditions’ of female narrators and asked to pick one. I…didn't like any of them! This one was too gravelly, this one too serious, this one too slow, etc. So I asked for more auditions, and Tantor (our publisher) sent me Jillian Macie’s audition, and she was perfect! She had the right conversational tone and sounded smooth as butter. I love the way she brings the characters to life, and I love that she’s continued to be the narrator for all of the books in the series. As a listener, I hate it when you get used to one person’s voice and then it’s changed up.

I also have audio as Jessica Sims, and the narrator on those, Leah Mallach, has done a fabulous job. She’s so chatty and gets the voices just right!

The only input we really had was the number of narrators – since the book is told by two people, we asked for a male and female narrator.

Jen and I have the same problem that a lot of authors do – we can’t listen to our own books! It just feels weird to have it read back to us. I know I don’t listen to audio of my own novels. All I hear are words I should have chosen or when a word is repeated too often, or if the narrator mispronounces a name that I say differently in my own head. So I don’t listen. I just hope that everyone else enjoys it, because that’s all that matters! As for listening to the whole book, though? Nope! I listen to the samples just to see how the narrator sounds and then turn it off before it gets too weird.

One of the things I love about the Hitman audio books that Nick's part is voiced by an actor with an accent is even better. Hearing the words given audio life by professionals is a really exciting part of this publishing journey.

Yes! We first heard Iggy Toma’s version of Nick at Romantic Times this spring, because a friend had the audio on her phone. We made her pull it up so we could hear his voice, and then we both squealed with delight when his delicious Russian accent came through. That was such an awesome moment! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the books narrated – I know he’s going to do an amazing job.

Jessica and Jen, THANK YOU both so much for
We had the pleasure of interviewing the narrator of the HITMAN Series, Iggy Toma earlier in the Audio Book Lovin' series, to see the interview, please click here.

Hard to Let Go - coverHard to Let Go
(Hard Ink Series, Bk #4)
by Laura Kaye

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters the biggest complication yet—seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights—and his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

Viviana's Review:
The final installment to the Hard Ink Series has everything you would want and that this series has been known for: fast-paced, action-packed and hot, steamy romance! While sad to know this is the last book in the series, I'm glad it got the ending it deserves vs. being dragged on and on. Laura did a fantastic job of developing and carrying both the story arc and the individual characters through out each installments.

The title of this book seems to mean different things to different characters, the readers and maybe even to the author. "Hard To Let Go" for Beckett, the hero of this story, would be more about letting go of his past and the guilt he carries for Derek losing his leg because he saved his life. For the Kat, she has to make the hard decision of her career or family.

As usual, we got to see glimpses of all the characters from the previous books but the main focus was the hero and heroin, Beckett and Kat. Laura ability to have everyone interact with each other but not lose the focus of who the story is about is fantastic. It all makes sense. :)

I do wish there would have been a little more interactions or instances here Beckett and Kat had to hang out with one another to have a better sense of that "chemistry"... it was just too instant... too quick at first... I mean, I KKNOW the guy is SEXY as hell and he found her attractive too, but there was this desire from the very beginning that would have been better explained if there would have a bit more interaction with each other.... However, once they got to know each other, it makes sense, that they fit together. They will work out.

Beckett is a complex character. He's a strong man, not only physically, but has had to be mentally as well. Meaning he has build walls up emotionally to not only protect himself but he feels to protect others from himself. People see him as tough, but the truth is, he has a kind heart and is a softie. He just doesn't express it often or may not know how to go about it. He bottles his emotions up and has come to realize that that isn't a way of living.

Laura wonderfully wraps up the story and provides the readers with all the answers they have been waiting for. While I'm sad to know this is the end for the HARD INK series, I'm happy to see it was done so beautifully!

Rating; 4 Stars - LOVED IT

Kat pushed Beckett so that his back rested against the couch as she straddled his lap. She cupped his face in her hands and got up close, her breasts against his chest, her forehead nearly touching his, her soft hair forming a curtain around them. Beckett’s heart beat like a bass drum. She kissed him.

A soft brush of skin on skin at first, and then a nibbling tug at his bottom lip that made his cock jerk where she sat on him. “I care if you live or die, Beckett. I care, a lot.”

He swallowed hard as that odd, warm pressure filled his chest again. “Why?” he asked, meeting those too-perceptive jade eyes.

“You really need me to spell it out?”

He really fucking did. Beckett nodded.

Kat kissed him. “Because you’re loyal, protective, and taking time away from your life to help my brother.” Another kiss. Beckett’s hands grasped her hips. “Because you’re smart, strategic, and a genius when it comes to gadgets and fixing things.” Kiss. “Because you keep trying to get Cy to let you pet him.” Kiss. “Because you’re gorgeous and sexy as hell.” Longer kiss. “And you fuck like a god.” Much longer, wetter, hotter kiss. “And because you called me ‘Angel.’”
Chest full, throat tight, heart pounding, Beckett kissed Kat on a groan, his thoughts struggling to process—to believe—that someone as beautiful and bright and together as Katherine Rixey could see all that in him when he couldn’t see most of it in himself. Hell, not even his parents had seen it.
Her arms wrapped around his neck and she sucked his tongue deep into her mouth, and Beckett was hard and aching and overwhelmed and more in need of being wanted than at any other moment in his life. And Kat gave that to him in spades. With her kisses. With her touch. With her desperate moans and grinding hips and pleading words. “I want you, Beckett. If we’re here for the night, I want you in me as deep and as hard and as often as you can. For just tonight, I don’t want to think about anything else but you.”
“Jesus, Kat,” he rasped, banding his arms around her back and pinning her to him. He devoured her mouth, sucked on her neck, bit the soft tendon that led to her shoulder. “I want that, too. But not here.”
“Why?” she moaned as his hands kneaded at her ass.
It was the silver lining in the cloud of being stuck here overnight. “Because for once, I finally have you all to myself with no need to hurry. I’m taking you to your bed, stripping you down, and spreading you out just like I said I would.”
