Author Interview: Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Extremely happy to have Laura Kaye with us today!!! Welcome!

HARD AS IT GETS is one steamy read! How did you first get into writing?

Thanks so much! And thanks for having me here! I've been a writer all my life. I’m a historian by training, so writing non-fiction was a part of my job for the fifteen years I worked as a college professor. But I started writing fiction in 2008 in kind of an unusual way. I hit my head on July 4, 2008. I didn’t think much of it that day, but soon after I realized I’d really hurt myself, and it turned out I had a minor traumatic brain injury. As I recovered, I was filled with an amazing urge to be creative, so I started taking guitar lessons (still not very good at that!) and wrote my first novel in 12 weeks (fortunately, I’m better at that LOL!). The experience of writing that first book was truly transformative. It was what I was supposed to be doing, so I revised that book until it sold and kept writing new ones. And I haven’t looked back since!

Spotlight and Giveaway: Just Desserts by Barbara Bretton

Just Desserts
By Barbara Bretton

Blurb:
Hayley had sworn off bad boys until Finn Rafferty set out to win her heart...

Once upon a time, Hayley had believed that a good woman (her) could turn a bad boy (her ex) into a knight in shining armor (pure fantasy). Ten years of marriage had finally drummed the truth into her head. In the real world bad boys didn’t turn into knights in shining armor. Bad boys grew up to be even worse men and the world would be a much happier place if little girls were taught that basic fact along with their ABCs.

Hayley Maitland Goldstein knew all about how these things worked. First a girl giggled, then she sighed, and the next thing you knew she was in Vegas taking her wedding vows in front of a red-haired Elvis with an overbite. You knew you had made a bad choice when Elvis slipped you his divorce lawyer’s business card while you were still shaking the rice from your hair.

But then Finn Rafferty came into her life and everything changed.

Hayley should have seen the kiss coming but it surprised her just the same. He had been looking at her with a crazy kind of unfocused intensity and she had been about to ask him if he was having a stroke when she realized she was about to be kissed by a man she actually wanted to kiss back.

Every now and then life handed you a perfect moment but the secret was figuring out how to make it last.

Viviana's Review:
I really, really liked this one!! Significantly more than the first one! I couldn't put it down. Once it finished, I sat back and tried to figure out why I liked it so much more than the first. Definitely the location. I'm a sucker for Scotland and the fact that Gabriel has the Scottish accent, dreamy! The pace of this one was much better as well. While I understand that there is a lot of explaining that needs to take place in the first book of any new series, but I felt that it was too repetitive in the first. Also, while this is the second book in the series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone as this book does also explain the whole concept. Lots of action and great tension between the heroine and hero.

Viviana's Review:

O.M.G! Words truly elude me! How to describe the awesomeness that is Darynda Jones and her story of Charley and Reyes!?! As with all great series, the next book tends to be better and continues to progress in that direction. This series is one of those where each book is better than the previous one, which tends to be hard to do as all the books in this series ROCK!!

Candie's Review:
OH MY DEAR LORD…This book was amazing!!! I can’t even tell you how fast I read it.  This story took a turn that I never expected and has blown me away. I don’t want to spoil anything for you readers, so let me just say this - LINUX!!!!!  From the beginning this has been an emotional roller-coaster for Vivienne and in true form continues to do so. When J.L. says Vivienne is lost, she means it. Having everything torn from her, she seeks refuge with Linux. She needs answers to her questions and leaves it up to him to help her find them.   Many crazy, sad, revelatory things ensue, and the ending…oh the ending is quite awesome. I think it maybe may be my favorite part of the book.
